Blue Screen Error Microsoft
2011 at 12:20:11 Specs: Windows XP Media Center Edition 2002 Service Pack 3, Pentium D /2 GB I recently had to fix a blue screen error (STOP: 0x24......) by using the windows xp cd to boot windows to do a http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f10/xp-blue-screen-error-stop-0x24-337966.html chkdsk /r and the result was windows found and fixed some files then windows booted normally but slow and got my desktop back with all my icons. Now 1) I somehow double clicked on the taskbar and it disappeared I tried moving my mouse around the corners of the screen it's nowhere to be found,2) I cannot boot in safe mode I just get a black screen with the words safe mode on the screen and the computer's specs,3) Explorer http://www.computing.net/answers/windows-xp/aftermath-of-fixing-dell-desktop-bsod-error-stop-0x24/198407.html doesn't open at all, not even through the task manager by using the option "new" app "explore.exe" which when run it opens up my documents instead of internet explorer, and 4) The icons on the desktop are locked without that option being chosen so now I can't drag files or folders to an external drive I have. They don't seem like they're ever gonna help. I figure I'd try it here. I'm trying to fix my friend's Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop with Windows XP, but really have no idea what I'm doing. When I start, it offers me Safe Mode options, Last Known Good Configuration, and Windows. However, whichever option I choose always brings me to the same blue screen: "Disable or uninstall any anti-virus, disk defragmentation or backup utilities. Check your hard drive configuration, and check for any updated drivers. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer. Technical information: STOP:0x00000024 (0x00190203,0x82B72828,0xC0000102,0x00000000)." I see that one thing to do is to go into the Recovery Console, but that doesn't show up as one of my options and I can't get into Windows to try and access it there. I tried getting there by running the Reinstallation disc (I have "Reinstallation DVD Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with Update Rollup 2") for the operating system. But the computer is not recognizing the disc (other than a little bit of whirring). I tried putting it in 1.) after having already started the computer and 2.) leaving it in the computer, turning pc off and then on again so it would already be there, but neither seemed to help. That's the current state of things. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A LITTLE BACKGROUND: (I wrote down the technical information...but unfortunately don't remember exactly what I did and what came after what action so this may be absolutely useless): When I first started trying to fix the computer it WOULD go into Windows for a bit, then shut down. I think trying to restore to an earlier setting somehow cut off my ability to get to Windows entirely.
