for the fabled "blue screen of death" fall into four general buckets. 1. New Hardware While the hardware can sometimes be bad, the real culprit is typically outdated, or just buggy, drivers. If you've just installed new hardware, then it's likely to be related to the problem. Make sure you're running the latest drivers for that device. Check Windows Update, specifically for "Optional" updates, as driver updates are often classified as optional. Check with your computer manufacturer's support site, or the support site for the specific hardware you recently added to your computer, for specific driver information as well. Conversely, if you've just updated drivers, that would also be something to be very suspicious of. See How, and when, should I update drivers? for more information on driver updates. (Spoiler: don't use driver update utilities.) 2. New Software It's rare these days, but occasionally software can cause blue screens as well. If you've just installed new software, I'd be very tempted to immediately uninstall it and see if the problem goes away. I'd also make sure that Windows is as up-to-date as possible,

I get Windows "blue screen of death" errors just about every day. I've installed BlueScreenView to look at the crash dumps and it looks like it's always either DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL or BAD_POOL_HEADER. Both are triggered by iaStorA.sy which is the driver for Intel Rapid Storage Technology. I've tried updating this driver but that didn't fix the issue. I've contacted Dell already and they're trying to help troubleshoot but this forum appears in tons of Google posts so I thought I'd try my luck here as well. They seem to happen only when I'm on YouTube watching videos using Google Chrome. Sometimes it's a few seconds into a video I receive a crash, or after 8 or 9 videos. They blue screen error use to be more frequent, but after upgrading my drivers most of everything else is stable. I can browse the internet all I want, view PDFs, email, even run highly intensive applications. But when I go to YouTube, I crash.I ran Prime95 for 4 hours to see what would happen. It passed everything without error.I used WhoCrashed to see who's to blame. It keeps coming back to an Nvidia driver and my Sympatic Touchpad driver. The Nvidia driver I tried using the up-to-date driver and the beta one available. I get crashes on YouTube for both. The Sympatic Driver is for Windows 8 64bit because the WIndows 8.1 64 bit version of it would cause my Touchpad to lock and unlock repeatedly until a crash happens. So I'm stuck. If it's just a driver issue, I rather fix it at home then send it back to the factory because I need this laptop for my job. I'd appreciate any help anybody can offer.
