Discussion in 'General Hardware' started by VinY, Aug 14, 2003. VinY Senior member Joined: Oct 9, 1999 Messages: 933 Likes Received: 0 Hey guys a friend of mine gave me his system to repair. Originally it was a Biostar motherboard with an Athlon XP 2000+, 256mb Apacer PC2100, and Geforce 4 Ti4200. Well the system wouldn't even power on, and he shorted the board by not removing all of the standoffs from the old motherboard when he installed the new one...So I had him buy an Epox 8RDA+ to replace the Biostar board. I install the new board and power it on for the first time. I get no video display on screen, but one semi-long beep and 2 short beeps from the PC speaker, and 7F is displayed on the board output. The tones do not repeat. I begin swapping out each main component to see which is causing the problem. I put in my Athlon Thunderbird 1000 and the beeps remain the same. I throw in a new stick of Corsair PC3200 DDR ram and the beeps remain the same. I swap the video card out and throw in an old TNT2 Ultra and the beeps remain the same, again. All of the hardware I swapped in is working, so I can't figure out what the hell is causing this system not to post. Any ideas? Thanks in advance! #1 VinY, Aug 14, 2003 fell8 Senior member Joined: Nov 12, 2001 Messages: 533 Likes Received: 0 Swap out the PS yet? #2 fell8, Aug 14, 2003 magomago Lifer Joined: Sep 28, 2002 Messages: 10,885 Likes Received: 1 Do you have the front USB connected? If so you probably have an extra pin (I beleive its GND?) connected that you shouldn't . Just unplug it all and see if it turns on - this was my friend's issue Also it seems that you didn't check the PSU which may also be at fault. Also make sure the board isn't making contact with the case because it will also not boot (though the error code for that is D1) #3 magomago, Aug 14, 2003 VinY Senior member Joined: Oct 9, 1999 Messages: 933 Likes Received: 0 I did swap power supply, same problem. I will try the USB thing. #4 VinY, Aug 14, 2003 VinY Senior member Joined: Oct
