The only discernable similarity is that happens on my office PC. It's never bothered me on my home PC. In Excel 2003, I was able to mess around in the clipboard options until it went away. In 2007, though, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/928274/how-do-i-get-rid-of-the-cannot-empty-the-clipboard-error the options seem to be seriously limited and generally useless. Jerry is trying to cut information from one cell and paste it into another cell. He can cut it just fine, but when he tries to paste it he gets an error message, "Cannot Empty the Clipboard." Jerry wonders what causes this error. This has been a problem in Excel for some time. (Actually, the problem seems to crop up in several different Office applications, not just Excel.) It seems to be more prevalent in versions of Excel earlier than Excel 2007, but it has been reported in the latest versions, as well. The solutions for the problem depend upon what is causing the problem and which version of Excel you are using. As an example, here are two different articles at the Microsoft Knowledge Base that address the issue for older versions of the program: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/196620 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899266 Note that the articles are focused on entirely different versions of Excel and entirely different causes. Unfortunately, Microsoft hasn't seen fit to acknowledge that the problem exists in Excel 2007 or Excel 2010—at least not in the Knowledge Base—but there are reports of it happening in those vers
8, 2005. Bucky Guest If you use remote desktop/terminal services, you may have seen the "cannot empty the clipboard" error. Then you cannot do anymore cutting and pasting. There have been many posts about this in the past, and I've seen suggestions about MS hotfixes, uninstalling Office, etc., but I haven't seen this solution, which worked for me: Go to Task Manager > Processes Look for "rdpclip.exe" End that process This is for the case where cutting and pasting works fine at first, but after a lot of cutting and pasting, you get the "cannot empty the clipboard" error. Bucky, Apr 8, 2005 #1 Advertisements Guest Guest I have exactly the same problem, and I use remote desktop, but the "rdpclip.exe" process was not running on my computer. Re: Go to Task Manager => Processes Look for "rdpclip.exe" End that process JAPinso, Jan 17, 2008 #3 Abter Joined: Sep 3, 2008 Likes Received: 0 THANKS. This fixed my problem, which has plagued me for over a year. NOTE: I found rdpclip.exe running on my remote computer, not my "main", or host, computer. To get to Task Manager on the remote computer, switch to that computer, and then hit CTRL-ALT-END (instead of CTRL-ALT-DEL). That will let you control the processes on the remote computer, instead of the host computer. I had to close all MS Office programs that were running (including Communicator) and then restarted the service. After restarting my MS Office programs, cut and paste worked fine! c
