(Here's why: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/589482/please-wait-after-lock-screen/) Anyway, one of the items I backed up to my Western Digital My Passport Ultra (recognized as the F drive) before re-installingwas Software.reg. When double clicking to merge, an error message pops up saying: "Cannot import F:\Software.reg: Error accessing the registry." If someone could help me in getting this item to merge, it would be wonderful. Sincerely, Dylan Knowles Edited by CaveStoryKing64, 26 September 2015 - 05:26 PM. There may be a disk or file system error."Solution: 1. Eliminate spaces from the path of the registry file (example: instead of "C:\folder name\file name.reg" use "C:\folder_name\file_name.reg")2. Either use an absolute path for the registry file inside the batch file, or write %~dp0 in front of the registry file inside the batch file to use the current directory as path. I run the .bat file as administrator but I get an error: "Cannot import mytest.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error." However, if I open RegEdit (as administrator) first then File >> Import >> mytest.reg ... it successfully runs. Btw, it's Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit) in a VMWare image. –Brian T Hannan Jan 4 '11 at 22:12 It also works if I open cmd.exe as administrator then kick off the .bat file. For some reason it seems like the Run as administrator for a .bat file doesn't work. –Brian T Hannan Jan 4 '11 at 22:33 It's hard to believe that no one else is having this same problem. –Brian T Hannan Jan 5 '11 at 18:51 It turns out that if you have a .bat file and relative paths in it then it doesn't know how to use them properly. But if you only put in absolute paths in the .bat file then it works ... bug in Windows 7 batch files? –Brian T Hannan Jan 10 '11 at 16:48 @Brian: Paths are relative to the "current directory", which may simply be different when you use "Run as administrator". Add a cd to see what the current directory is. –grawity May 27 '11 at 11:06 | show 2 more comments 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 1 down vote Is the .reg file on a network volume? by John Mikumi, Jan 14, 2004. John Mikumi Guest Hi, Anyone know a simple way of fixing the following error that I'm getting when I boot up my Win 2000 PC: Registry Editor: Cannot import sys.reg: Error opening the file. There may be a disk or file system error. There doesn't seem to be any affect on performance, just that it's annoying. Thanks! John Mikumi, Jan 14, 2004 #1 Advertisements Dave Patrick Guest Spyware. Natively you can; Start\Settings\Control Panel\Administrative Tools\Computer Management(Local)\System Information\Software Environment\Startup Programs|View|Advanced, then in the "Location" column, you'll find the path to the "Startup" location either in the "Startup" directories or from the registry's "Run" keys. %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup You can delete the shortcuts that you no longer want to run. HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run You can delete the string value for the program you no longer want to run. or copy msconfig from Windows XP -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup.
