Top 2011-02-17 07:00:09 #3 HoneyBrook Registered: Feb 17 2011 Posts: 1 Would really like to know an answer for this. I have same problem on my work computer. Excel 2007, Win 7, Reader X. Can't embed Excel documents or open ones others have embedded. Similarly can't embed pdf into Word or PowerPoint. No problem inserting pdf files or opening in Outlook 2007 though. Tried to repair Reader install. No change to errors. Checked registry entry mentioned elsewhere HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{B801CA65-A1FC-11D0-85AD-444553540000}\LocalServer32 which in this case properly points to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 10.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" which appears OK. Would like to know what else to try. I don't believe I have any other Acrobat version on my work computer (only a few months old).Error when trying to embed into Excel 2007:Cannot insert object.Error when trying to embed into Word 2007:The program used to create this object is AcroExch. They worked recently but today started to cannot insert give errors. I was alerted to this by a colleague, but it was still working on my computer. I checked his version of Excel against mine and his was newer. I noticed there were new Windows updates, so I did the update. After I applied pending updates, it now no longer works on my computer. I cannot check the ActiveX checkboxes any longer, and, as a part of trying to debug, it appears I cannot even add an ActiveX cannot insert object control to any worksheet, even a new worksheet, any more. I get an error dialog that says, "Cannot insert object." (I can still add form controls, just not ActiveX.) Anyone else experiencing this after a recent update? Any suggestions? Their spreadsheets use, I think, ActiveX controls - ComboBoxes and Buttons. One of them had his PC being worked on and thus did not get the updates. When he got it back it successfully ran the controls. That is, until his PC auto updated. Now it doesn't. We also cannot add ActiveX controls to their sheets. –Mitchell Kaplan Dec 10 '14 at 22:30 5 I too am experiencing this problem as are all users in my firm. How could MS possibly release an update that breaks ActiveX controls in Excel? This is crazy. –harryg Dec 11 '14 at 10:28 3 @vba4all: no, this is a programming question and belongs here. –Harry Johnston Dec 18 '14 at 21:46 2 @vba4all: ActiveX controls are a programming tool - aren't they? What else would you use them for? It would be different if the OP was, for example, asking
Inserting a Measurement Studio ActiveX Controls? Primary Software: Measurement Studio>>Measurement Studio for Visual Basic 6 Primary Software Version: 1.0 Primary Software Fixed Version: N/A Secondary Software: N/A Problem: I have installed NI Security Update 67L8LIQW and 67L8LOQW, and now I receive a "Cannot insert object" error when I attempt to insert a Measurement Studio ActiveX control in a Microsoft Office document. Why do I receive this error and how do I fix it? Solution: NI Security Update 67L8LIQW for cwui.ocx and NI Security Udpate 67L8L0QW for cw3dgrph.ocx eliminate a vulnerability in Measurement Studio ActiveX controls by disabling the controls in Microsoft Office and supplying replacement controls that are not vulnerable. When an ActiveX control is inserted into a Microsoft Office document, Microsoft Office creates an .exd file for the control to cache the control's information. This allows the control to be loaded more quickly the next time it is inserted into Microsoft Office. However, when the security updates are installed, the .exd files are not updated with the replacement control information. When a control is inserted into Microsoft Office, it attempts to load the version of the control that has been disabled by NI Security Update 67L8LIQW or 67L8LOQW. To load the control, delete the CWUIControlsLib.exd and CW3DGraphLib.exd files from the created by Microsoft Office. Refer to Microsoft KnowledgeBase: EXD files are created when you insert controls for a list of folders that contain these files. Once the files are deleted, try inserting the control again.
