Today I decided to go into even viewer and see if there was anything odd going on. Sure enough there were services failing to start. The main one was Dcom dcom server server process launcher, it is the one causing the computer to boot slowly. My question is what is this service used for? And should I try and find out why it doesn't start or just leave it alone? I set the service to manual so that my computer boots right up without hanging. Here is the message in event viewer. The DCOM Server Process Launcher service hung on starting. For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp. dcom server process I get "Could not start the DCOM Server Process Launcher service on Local computer. Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion." When I try to start DCOM manually. Nothing weird has happened lately (besides my computer booting normally). So if no one says anything I will just assume I don't need dcom. Get the DCOMbobulator from http://www.grc.com . See if that doesn't clean it up for you. .bh. "Our freedom depends on five boxes: soap, ballot, jury, witness; and, when all else fails, Ammo.
