I verified owner permissions on the file I'm trying to delete, and it had "Read" ftp delete file permission denied and "Write" checked. Switching from active to passive in my FTP client also has no effect. Anyone know what this is all about? Does it have anything to do with uploading the files via WebDAV (MacOS) and then trying to

Also, deleting files has to do with the permissions on the directory. Files uploaded by WebDAV are owned by 'dhapache' so you can't modify them using FTP either. openvein.org -//- 04-24-2009, 04:39 PM Post: #3 joelsanda Dreamling Posts: 2 Joined: Mar 2009 Can't delete files via FTP Darn. You'll run into the same problem that FTP had. -Scott 06-18-2009, 09:11 AM Post: #6 mattgilbert Dreamling Posts: 3 Joined: Jun 2009 Can't delete files via FTP so... what do you do? especially if you already have uploaded files, how do you get rid of them, given they were uploaded with some client that screwed up the permissions? what client should be used to avoid this problem (webftp has very restrictive file size limits at least in my case) 06-18-2009, 12:01 PM Post: #7 sXi Grizzled Veteran Posts: 4,375 Joined: Jan 2008 Can't delete

When I watch the status, it attempts to delete the subdirectory then says it's not empty, and proceeds to delete the others, all with the same result. The thing is, filezilla just went through and deleted all of the files from all of the subdirectories. Each and every one of them is empty (made empty by filezilla) but it's not letting me delete them. Any thoughts? Aparently there was an .htaccess file that was hidden, so when I had it show hidden files, it popped up, and then filezilla deleted that file and the subdirectory. I did find that I had to tell it to show hidden files on each of the subdirectories before it would "find" it and delete it, but not a big deal. of websites at Winhost . A couple are on wordpress. Until recently (last month) I had no problems with either site. Now one site is still working fine http://forum.winhost.com/threads/cant-delete-folders-files-in-ftp-or-update-plugins-in-wp.15777/ but the other I have issues deleting files/folders. I have been using the http://stackoverflow.com/questions/32792093/cannot-rename-or-delete-files-on-ftp-server-with-php automatic update for plugins in wordpress- its been working fine. However I now get an error when trying to install a plugin or delete a plugin (from within wordpress). Thinking it may work via FTP I attempted to try a manual update - no, it fell over. Exmple of error messages:- "Plugin could not delete file be deleted due to an error: Could not fully remove the plugin(s) safe-redirect-manager/safe-redirect-manager.php." I try to remove the file via FTP - fail again with the message "Request denied. Verify that the file or folder exists and that you have the necessary permissions on the server to perform the requested operation" COMMAND:> DELE ajax.php 550 Access is denied. ERROR:> Requested action not taken (e.g., file or directory ftp delete file not found, no access). I have been able to MOVE the whole website to a temporary folder - but still cannot delete any files even under the temporary folder. I can upload new files as long as i am not overwriting files. I can even rename any file , but even after renaming i cannot delete the file .... Any ideas ? Then when you try to delete the subdirectory the contains the hidden file you will get that error message. You can force FileZilla to show hidden files by opening FileZilla. Click on "Server" on the top and select "Force Showing Hidden Files." This issue will also happen if the site is currently using the file on the server. To clear this you should recycle the application pool through the control panel. To do this login to the control panel. Click on the "Sites" tab at the top. Click on "Manage" next to the site. On the next page click on the icon "Recycle A

But when I uploaded it too my ftp server i ran into some issues. Obviously I couldn`t use rename function etc, and had to change to ftp_rename etc. So the problem is that I can't rename or delete any files with my php script. I have tried to change permissions on files and root directory without any luck. I can browse the files, but not rename or delete them. I don't get any error messages either, the file doesn't load and I get a 500 server error if I try to rename or delete. Any suggestions? $ftp_server = ""; $ftp_conn = ftp_connect($ftp_server) or die("Could not connect to $ftp_server"); $login = ftp_login($ftp_conn, "username", "password"); $files = ftp_rawlist($ftp_conn, "www/subtitlesyncer/uploads"); ftp_delete($ftp_conn, "www/subtitlesyncer/uploads/newfile.txt") if (ftp_rename($ftp_conn, "www/subtitlesyncer/uploads/newfile.txt","www/subtitlesyncer/uploads/new_file_edited.txt")) { ... } I use this settings, but can`t get any error. ini_set('display_errors',1); ini_set('display_startup_errors',1); error_reporting(-1); This is the file I try to edit: -rw-r--r-- 1
