Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart" error message. My computer hadrware is only 4 months old. I have the following: ASUS A7N8X-X MB AMD XP 2500 Barton Maxtor 80G HDD 7200 ATA 133 512mb DDR 400 350W power supply Window XP Home Edition Two days ago I went to boot my computer then I got the above error. I tried repeatly to restart, each boot ended with the same disk read error. When I pressed F8 to go into SafeMode, nothing happened. So I booted from my Win XP disk and preformed a Repair. I was then able to start Windows and continue to use the computer. I scanned my computer with the latest updates from McAfee and found No Virus. I shut-down XP and tryied to boot again and Win XP loaded with no problem. I thought I fixed the disk read error with the repair until the next day when I tried to start my computer again. I was shocked to see that I got the same " A Disk Read Error Occured. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart" Error. So I completed another Windows XP Repair, but this time I ran a chkcsk twice, no errors were found. I checked my boot.ini and it was exactly as a default WinXP home edition boot.ini should be. I then ran the computor for 24 hrs scheduling virus scan to run. The computer ran with no problems for 24 hrs. I then shut down Win XP and restarted immediately after and had no problems.
