When it rebooted it took me to a black screen and at the top there's a blue bar that say www.dell.com and below that "Loading PBR for descriptor 2...done.A disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart" I'll restart and it'll do it again. I'm not sure what the issue is (I'm not very tech savy I just know the basics). Could you please help! All Replies Posted by osprey4 on 30 Apr 2009 18:49 Hi, tikichan: This error indicates a problem with the master boot record, or MBR. There is a chance your hard drive is going bad, or it may simply be a corruption of the MBR, which can be fixed. The first thing to do is run the Dell diagnostics on your hard drive. In order to do this, you need to boot the computer to your Dell Resource CD. Boot to the BIOS (F2) and under boot devices, set your first boot device to be the CD drive. Pop your Dell Resource CD into the drive and exit the BIOS saving changes. If everything tests OK, then you need to repair the MBR. Load the Windows XP Reinstallation disc and choose Repair. In the repair console, run the FIXMBR and FIXBOOT commands. Then restart the PC and Windows XP shouldcome back up. Please post back and let me know what happened.
