It's https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/208396-vhd-backup-not-booting-a-disk-read-error-occurred a great way to backup. But for some reason I can't seem to get some of them to boot. The one I'm working with right now, and having issue with is: 1.Part of https://forums.veeam.com/veeam-endpoint-backup-f33/a-disk-read-error-occured-t26227.html a hardware mirror (just using one of the disks to make a vhd). 2. Windows 7 3. It was running just fine as a physical machine, but slow. 4. The data drive is disk read in tact, and I'm able to access it just fine, but not the "System Reserved" partition, it keeps asking for format it when I mount the vhd file. I tested a working machine and I'm able to access the system reserved partition if I assign it a drive letter, but not from this vhd. 5. I did have to delete the pagefile, restore folder, and hiberfile, (in disk read error order to be able to shrink it) but these should not be required to boot. They should just be remade, right? Since in this case I was replacing the HD's I could just pop them back in and change the system restore settings, and what not, then remake my vhd, if my assumption in 5 is wrong, but I have some other backups that are in a similar situation where I made a vhd then reformatted on the same drive, but I still need to shrink them, which means getting rid of some system files that can't simply be moved. I used disk2vhd and vhd resizer to create the vhd and resize respectively. So you are using BMR and recovering ALL partitions, including the hidden ones to a VM config? Or are you only recovering the volumes? I have done it a few times as a test and it did work very good so I am not sure why it is failing at your side....Are you using a generation 1 or 2 VM?Mike Mike Resseler Veeam Software Posts: 938 Liked: 163 times Joined: Fri Feb 08, 2013 3:08 pmLocation: Belgium, the land of the fries, the beer, the chocolate and the diamonds...
