PM #202 Animedude5555 Junior Member Posts: 11 Threads: 3 Joined: Sep 2013 Link to raw dumper broken. Will any software that can access the "physical drive" work? For example HxD hex editor can access a physical drive and then save the contents to a file. Will that work? Though while searching for it, I ended up finding I could get it here. http://www.trisaster.de/download/nintendo/wii/game/RawDump_v2.1.rar Find Reply 09-15-2013, 02:41 AM (This post was last modified: 09-15-2013, 02:46 AM by Shonumi.) #205 Shonumi Linux User/Tester Posts: 5,383 Threads: 41 Joined: Dec 2011 A hex editor won't work unless you have one of the special DVD drives mentioned in this thread. A hex editor would request a file in whatever language it was written in; the low-level file I/O is handled by the OS which in turn needs to access a device through its drivers. The firmware in the DVD drives mentioned takes advantage of a special hardware quirk present in only a few DVD drives to read the raw disc data in a certain (and unintended) manner. In other words, it's possible, but only with the appropiate hardware. You can't force any old DVD drive to read Wii discs through software like that. Website Find Reply 09-

A Disk Read Error Occurred Windows 10
RawDump 2.0 on unsupported drive Discussion in 'Wii - Hardware, Devices and Utilities' a disk read error occurred press ctrl+alt+del to restart windows 7 started by davegazi, Nov 11, 2008. Nov 11, 2008 RawDump 2.0 on unsupported drive by davegazi at 9:19 a disk read error occurred xp PM (4,926Views / 0Likes) 6replies OP Newcomer davegazi Member Joined: Sep 25, 2008 Messages: 45 Country: I tried RawDump on my desktop's Plextor. Wii discs are, of course, not recognized. On https://forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-howto-dump-wii-or-gamecube-games-with-pc-no-wii-needed?page=21 a whim, I tried to read in on my old HP laptop, and it didn't seem to continue spinning and not reading like the Plextor. So I loaded up RawDump 2.0 and it seemed to recognize the Wii disc. The DVD-ROM in my HP is an HL-DT-STRW GCC 4241 N0C29. As RawDump fires up, it shows "Wii disc" under the drive dropdown box. https://gbatemp.net/threads/rawdump-2-0-on-unsupported-drive.115063/ Dog Island would error out "illegal character in path". I wiped down the disc and boo-yah, the disc is id'd as The Dog Island. "Finding seeds" shows in the RawDump window, and I get the dreaded "Arithmetic overflow" error that even people with the correct drives seem to get. I've tried DMA and PIO modes with the rip terminating with the overflow error. -Could I have stumbled on a drive that may work? -Or does RawDump allow any drive to recognize a Wii disc? -If this drive could work, any hints to try to get a successful dump? Thanks. davegazi, Nov 11, 2008 Top #1 Member Slowking GBAtemp Maniac Joined: Dec 31, 2006 Messages: 1,396 Country: It won't work. Why don't you jsut use your Wii to dump those discs? Slowking, Nov 12, 2008 Top #2 Member Lumstar Princess Joined: Mar 6, 2006 Messages: 3,515 Location: Darling Country: Wii discs are a non-standard format, which the vast majority of drives cannot read normally. If at all. Lumstar, Nov 12, 2008 Top #3 OP Newcomer davegazi Member Joined: Sep 25, 2008 Messages: 45

They all say that I am using a faulty drive. I have one other DVD-RW drive and one other DVD-ROM drive also on the system, they're both SATA drives. Rawdump detects two of the other DVD-ROM drive, which I thought might be a coding error or something. disk read error It's not displaying the proper name for the drive but there are three drives there. I've tried dumping discs with both of them selected, inserting the disc after the program has started up, and still nothing. Each time it says "Wii Disc Detected" on the main screen, even if I'm using a gamecube disc, so I don't know if that's important. Is the drive actually faulty maybe? I need to know soon so I can exchange the thing.
