and display errors is set and also error reporting is E_ALL. I have restarted my apache web server. I have even put these lines at the top of my script and it doesn't even catch simple parse errors. For example, I declare variables with a "$" and I don't close statements";". But all my scripts show a blank page on these errors, but i want to actually see the errors in my browser output. error_reporting(E_ALL); php error types ini_set('display_errors', 1); What is left to do? php error-reporting share|improve this question edited Mar 9 at 7:16 Maninderpreet Singh 1,7111524 asked Jun 27 '09 at 19:09 Abs 13.3k68208356 3 I've yet to nail down exactly why this works sometimes and not others, but for anyone wanting to quickly toggle errors in a php script (or enable them via a $_REQUEST parameter) these two lines will work most of the time. –brandonscript Oct 28 '13 at 20:15 well you can see details of the error by enabling xdebug from php ini file. –jewelhuq Jan 13 at 10:14 add a comment| 13 Answers 13 active oldest votes up vote 1348 down vote accepted This always works for me: ini_set('display_errors', 1); ini_set('display_startup_errors', 1); error_reporting(E_ALL); However, this doesn't make PHP to show parse errors - the only way to show those errors is to modify your php.ini with this line: display_errors = on share|improve this answer edited Oct 23 '15 at 12:24 tleb 1,174721 answered Jan 29 '14 at 11:25 Fancy John 13.9k2915 4 why is this not the best answer? –özg Jul 4 '14 at 11:52 13 @özg Because this configuration doesn't show parser errors (errors due to syntactically incorrect scripts --e.g: ill-formed scripts). invalid information is submitted through our contact form, we now have an error message in a PHP variable. In this video, we’ll continue to enhance the flow of the form to display the message from that variable with the form. Video Transcript Downloads 0:00 [Randy Hoyt] We are now loading messages relating to any error we encounter into a variable. 0:04 Let's take the next step and display the contact form again with the error message above it. 0:09 We begin with a conditional to check if the request method was post. 0:13 The conditional block of code ends with a curly bracket here. 0:18 As we go through this conditional code, there are 2 possible outcomes. 0:23 First the data could be valid and the email could get sent successfully, in which case we would get redirected to the thank-you page. 0:31 Second an error message variable could get set on the contact page in 1 of our 5 checks. 0:36 If there is an error message, our code will continue down here past the conditional and execute the code to display the page. 0:44 Let's put some troubleshooting code in place here, just so you can see the error message. 0:57 If there is an error message, if the error variable is set, then let's display that error message on the screen. 1:09 Let me show you how this looks in the browser. 1:13 When I first load the form the request method is not post, so we skip over that whole top block of code. 1:19 The error message variable is not set, so we don't try to display it to the screen. 1:27 I'll complete the form, but I'll specify an email address in an invalid format. 1:33 When I click Submit it loads the contact.php file. 1:37 Instead of redirecting to the thank-you page, it now sets an error message and then continues on displaying the pages before. 1:43 You can see the error message displayed here at the top. Let's now integrate the error message into the site better. 1:57 Here's the start of the form tag. If we have an error message, let's display that error message here. 2:35 Let's go back to the p
