Ran a few loop test (prime 95 + directx game + video running) for several hours which went fine. Tried to use windows update and the computer froze. Most likely a motherboard fault, although not necessarily the DMA controller itself - could be a symptom brought on by bad capacitors (motherboard or PSU).
