Verifying Dmi Pool Data Update Success
to restartOne day I attempted to boot up and from out of nowhere I began consistently getting this message every time I tried to boot. I had made no recent hardware or software updates except that I do use automatic update for Norton Internet Security and Windows XP. I first checked for cable issues but found none. I have two identical Maxtor 200G drives. I swapped the drives and installed Windows on the one that is normally my secondary drive. I had no problem booting from that drive and no problem reading the original primary drive from the new Windows installation. I read most of the posts in this thread and began trying the suggested solutions working my way up from the least drastic to the most. The thing that cured it for me was flashing the BIOS and refreshing the settings in the CMOS console. There was a slightly newer version of my BIOS available but I have a hunch that if I had only refreshed the the settings in the CMOS console that alone might have done it. There are some earlier posts in this thread from folks who had success doing just that. Hope this

DMI or DesktopManagement Interface (pdf) is a layer of abstraction between system components and the software that manages them. The System Management BIOS (SMBIOS) is an extension of the Basic Input Output System (BIOS) that formulates and delivers this information to the operating system. The pool data is the information. In short, when the BIOS is "Verifying DMI pool data" it is verifying the table of data it https://forums.techguy.org/threads/xp-installation-verifying-dmi-pool-data-disk-read-error.840380/ sends to the operating system (Windows, etc.). If it isn't sucessful, it should return an error. Wait a reasonable period of time for it to finish. It may make take some time or it may be stuck. Possible fixes: 1. If you changed the hardware just before this problem occurred (e.g., installed a new hard disk drive), unchange it. 2. If you installed a new hard disk drive, set the motherboard CMOS Setup to Auto for the drive type. You may have to disconnect the drive first. 3. Enable "Reset Configuration Data" (may be "Force Update ESCD" in some CMOS Setuups) in the motherboard CMOS Setup PNP/PCI configuration. (Rebooting will automatically disabled it after it has done its thing.) 4. The CMOS may be corrupted. Clear it. 5. Disconnect all drives not required to boot the computer. If this fixes it, reconnect one at time. 6. The floppy drive may be bad or not connected properly. 7. Reseat all expansion boards. 8. Pull all boards not required to boot the computer. 9. Check your order of boot devices. Simple mistake, I know. But some motherboards will hang instead of moving on to the next boot device. 10.I had a hangup on the "Verifying DMI Pool data" step in the boot sequence. I researched several sites, including yours and have one thing to add to what was on your site. I had inadvertently left a USB memory stick reader (With stick inst

Windows 7: "A disk read error occurred" and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_pool Safe Mode Issues 18 Jan 2015 #1 nstrix17 Windows 7 Home Premium x64 2 posts "A disk read error occurred" and Safe Mode Issues So yesterday, my computer was in sleep mode, dmi pool working fine. I was vacuuming my room and I blew a circuit, no biggie, happens all the time, so I turn off the vacuum and lights, went down to the fuse box, and flipped the switch back. I haven't tried to use my computer until I finished vacuuming. Once I finished, I sat down at my computer and turn it on. Now normally, when I turn the computer on, it dmi pool data shows the motherboard screen, then goes to a black screen with white text which says "Verifying DMI Pool Data ............" at the bottom and then it goes to the windows start up screen. This time, after being stuck on the black and white screen for a while, under the "Verifying DMI Pool Data ............" It says "A disk read error occurred", "Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart". I though that was strange, so I did what it said, Ctrl+Alt+Delete and it restarted. Same message. I tried repeating this several times, nothing new is happening. I use the power button on my computer and shut it off, then turn it back on again. A different black and white screen showed up with an error message and said to press enter to continue. I pressed enter, nothing happens, so I shut off the computer and turn it back on. Now it shows me the normal windows crash screen, where you can choose to start windows in safe mode or start it normally. I, not knowing what safe mode even meant, picked safe mode. Safe mode loads up, no issues that I could see, but I noticed the taskbar was white and the start button had the old windows look and the de
