Upon reboot after install things freeze after Grub 1.5 with a Grub Error 15 message. Is there any easy way to fix fix dual boot this? (I am posting this from my second computer) UPDATE: I managed to boot into both 12.04 and Win7 using BIOS: Selected the disk with the Win7 'C' Partition: resulted in the same error message Rebooted, tried the disk with the Ubuntu Partitions: *Grub Menu loaded: Managed to boot 12.04, rebooted, used BIOS again: Managed to boot Win 7 So, I have access to my computer again (thru BIOS), but this has been a pretty crappy install experience. Garth I used the the Final release 12.04 Ubuntu install disk, reformatted all Linux partitions, and expected a simple clean install. Other than specifying the Ubuntu Partitions, I did a basic install of 12.04. No way I did do anything to get this crap error failure! I have no idea why my install resulted in a Grub-15 error. grub2 dual-boot share|improve this question edited Oct 21 '12 at 16:05 Jorge Castro 24.2k91386589 asked May 1 '12 at 22:37 Garth 6113 grub2 does not have stage1.5 or error 15, and you should not be using grub legacy on a fresh install of 12.04. I believe wubi installs use GRUB4DOS which is a fork of grub

x64 2 posts Grub boot error 15, file not found I just recently returned from a trip out of town and found when I tried to boot my computer I had a Grub boot error 15, file not http://askubuntu.com/questions/129689/how-do-i-fix-grub-error-15-on-new-dual-boot-install found. I've never heard of grub4dos before I began trying to figure out what was wrong with my computer and found that it is used for dual booting. I run windows 7 ultimate x64 and have never dual booted my machine. While my laptop itself is not password protected, I do require a password to get into windows. My question is can someone get around the required password to install grub4dos, install linux, then copy my hard-drive, leaving it useless when they're http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/242350-grub-boot-error-15-file-not-found.html done? If not, is there some other way, a virus or trojan, that could cause windows to fail and revert to grub? I did remove my hard-drive, put it into an external case and try to look at it on another computer. In the disk manager it shows that it's healthy, has 465gb avail and the format is RAW. I really hope that someone out there can tell me how to recover my data and that the problem is something other than some individual hacking my computer. Thanks. Windows doesn't use Grub, so there's no way it just showed up unless someone installed it. Installing a Linux distro doesn't require your Windows password - they just boot from a CD and install the distro, which includes the Grub bootloader. They can also use a Linux LiveCD to access the entire Windows partition and get pretty much whatever they want from it. Do you have your Windows 7 installation DVD? Then i clear all the linux partition and start from the scratch. though i didn't remove the windows partition. then i installed the Ubuntu 10 from the live cd.i created one ex3 partition and swat partion. in the ex3 partition i configured the '/'. Everything went well. After that i installed Mandriva 2009 from live cd. there was 12gb freespace left.so i installed the mandriva 2009 in it, by configuring manual partition. i made a swap partition and / and /home partions.. so now i have two swap partion and 2 ext3 partition. ( before this i tried to install with one swap partition but it didn't work.because mandriva shows failure loading the swap partition. this was the reason i created two swap partition) Also i installed the grub of Ubuntu in the root partition and grub of Mandriva in the MBR. Ubuntu was showed in the grub menu. Mandriva is working good. when i select the ubuntu it take me to another menu containg ubuntu, ubuntu safe, memtest and windows xp. When i tried to load the ubuntu it showed me Error 15 : file not found. Also mandriva can access the root partition of ubuntu. so i have the menu.lst Attached Files fdisk.txt (844 Bytes, 9 views) menu.txt (4.5 KB, 9 views) Adv Reply December 6th, 2008 #2 bhadotia View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message Extra Foam Sugar Free Ubuntu Join Date Mar 20
