manager as was a file server that was able to view the shares as well and also the namespace cannot be queried element not found windows 2008 hosted the shares configured in DFS. Since demoting the first DC, whenever I try to pull up the DFS manager on any of these servers, the namespace cannot be queried access is denied I am able to see the namespace, but when I select it, I get the error - “The namespace cannot be queried. Element not found.” How can I restore the namespace? It’s on a test network that does not have backups. I https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/977511 only have a few shares configured within DFS, would it make more sense to just rebuild DFS? I’ve tried doing that already though with the same name, but can’t as the name exists. Reply Subscribe RELATED TOPICS: DFS Error - The namespace cannot be queried. I went through the article and ran DFSDIAG. TestDFSConfig, TestDFSIntegrity, and Test Referral failed with essentially the same element not found errors. Should I just rebuild DFS and could doing so cause a problem with my SSYVOL and NETLOGON shares? 0 This discussion has been inactive for over a year. Once it's determined that the namespace is having error, the ability to create new folder, delegate management permissions, delete and view properties is removed from the available actions. It also hinder the ability to create and add new namespaces, especially if you want to replace the namespaces with the same name. The issue occurred because the affected domain-based namespaces that gave error have been removed from the namespace server that is hosting the namespaces, but are not deleted from AD DS namespace configuration. In other words, the namespace is orphaned.Start here for a quick overview of the site Help Center Detailed answers to any questions you might have Meta Discuss the workings and policies of this site About Us Learn more about Stack Overflow the company Business Learn more about hiring developers or posting ads with us Server Fault Questions Tags Users Badges Unanswered Ask Question _ Server Fault is a question and answer site for system and network administrators. We are primarily using Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 servers. I'm getting an error in my DFS Management Console. It is saying "ERROR \domain.local\xxxx: The namespace cannot be queried. Element not found" This may be due to the fact this DFS namespace was created a while back and some of the domain controllers that used to host this namespace are no longer in service. How do I go about fixing this issue? It very well could be a DNS issue as I've seen that before but my guess is that it has something to do with the original servers being decommissioned. –joeqwerty Oct 28 '10 at 17:26 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Perhaps this will help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977511 share|improve this answer answered Oct 28 '10 at 16:54 joeqwerty 83.5k246121 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Hopefully you still have a server that the DFS console works on. If you do, go to each namespace, right-click it, hit properties, then go to the 'referrrals' tab. Make sure the "Ordering Method" is NOT set
