Delete Dfs Namespace
Not Found Tried google searching this however all the posts I find reference a deleted namespace. This namespace hasnt been deleted. For the record the shares and the data that this namespace points to is still there. Any Ideas? Should I just https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/977511 recreate the namespace? For the record all of servers that have the shares are DC's running Server 03 R2 except for one which is standard. DFS Namespace Help Cannot add existing Namespace to display?   5 Replies Ghost Chili OP Best Answer philipmjr Jul 8, 2010 at 10:56 UTC There is quite a difference in DFS from 2003 to https://community.spiceworks.com/topic/104039-dfs-error-the-namespace-cannot-be-queried-element-not-found 2003R2. You may want to consider upgrading. Also, check this: http://support.microsoft.com/?id=224384
Then rebuild the namespace. 0 Chipotle OP Zack3067 Jul 8, 2010 at 11:59 UTC I know that there are differences between r2 and standard with respect to dfs. At this point I will be upgrading all my dc's to server 08 later in the year. So do I need to do this on all my dc's that are running dfs? How do i know if the dfs roots are fault tolerant? Thanks zack 0 Ghost Chili OP philipmjr Jul 8, 2010 at 12:01 UTC Are you replicating between servers? 0 Chipotle OP Zack3067 Jul 8, 2010 at 1:15 UTC I dont think so...in the past when a particular dc was down users could not access the files on that share. 0 Ghost Chili OP Helpful Post philipmjr Jul 8, 2010 at 1:34 UTC DC and DFS are not the same. DFS uses DC. So if you only have one DC, and it went down, all DFS shares would be offline. Both commands on the link I sent you are basically the same. That particular KB article is for 2000, but should be the same for 2003 I believe. 0 This discussion has been inactive for over a year. We are primarily using Windows 2008 and 2008 R2 servers. I'm getting an error in my element not found DFS Management Console. It is saying "ERROR \domain.local\xxxx: The namespace cannot be queried. Element not found" This may be due to the fact this DFS namespace was created a while back and some of the domain controllers that used to host this namespace are no longer in service. How do I go about fixing this issue? It very well could be a DNS issue as I've seen that before but my guess is that it has something to do with the original servers being decommissioned. –joeqwerty Oct 28 '10 at 17:26 add a comment| up vote 0 down vote Perhaps this will help: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/977511 share|improve this answer answered Oct 28 '10 at 16
