see anything on this in the list archives. Regards, Rowena Rowena Macrae-Gibson MCLIP Assistant Librarian (User Education/Enquiry Services) LSE Library, 10 Portugal Street London WC2A 2HD e-mail: R.Macrae-Gibson@xxxxxxxxx tel: 020 7955 6148 http://www.lse.ac.uk/library/ This error comes up if someone has recently upgraded to a new version of EndNote and Word is still calling up the older version. The "Upgrade" version of EndNote is actually a full, independent installation of the program. It does not actually update an existing version but installs separately. So these users probably still have the old version installed (or at least the old http://community.thomsonreuters.com/t5/EndNote-General/quot-member-not-found-quot/td-p/662 CWYW files or registry associations). If you have more than one version of EndNote installed on your computer, the "Go to EndNote" command in Word appears to go to whichever one was last used with Word. The best way to clear this up is to close all programs, back up your EndNote libraries and any customized content files, then uninstall all versions of EndNote on the machine http://osdir.com/ml/search.endnote/2004-07/msg00059.html via the Add/Remove Programs applet on the Control Panel. Then reinstall the current version and everything should work as expected. ________________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned for all viruses by the MessageLabs Email Security System. ________________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned for all viruses by the MessageLabs Email Security System. closes, I get an error message "Member not found". I've gone through the EN7 help system and searched through the PDF version of the EN7 manual, but I can't find ANY reference to "member". Does http://osdir.com/ml/search.endnote/2004-07/msg00023.html this error cause a problem with the database? What can I do to correct this error? Thread at a glance: Previous Message by Date: Re: endnote-interest-digest V1 #1606 Re Endnote 8 back compatibility: I have contacted ISI technical support about this BIG endnote error problem and their reply is quoted below. "Hello Thomas, thanks for contacting tech support. There is no way to save your library in the old format from EndNote 8, as the database format of EndNote 8 can contain characters that are invalid in EndNote 7 and earlier. Additionally, since the field limits were removed in EndNote 8, you would also have the potential problem of too much information in a field/reference. What you endnote error member can do is export the references in the RIS output style [i.e., "RefMan (ISI) export" output style] format to a text file, which you can then import into EndNote 7 and earlier." I tried "roundtripping" a small library this way -- but the results were not promising. My response to ISI is quoted below. "Thanks for your suggestion. I hope that works for earlier versions of EN-- it does not work to export in RIS style/txt format from EN 8 and then re-import the same file into EN 8 (even though import from that format is apparently supported). I just tried it with a small library and it scrambled MOST of the refs. For 8 (of a total of 13 refs!), round tripping from EN8 to EN8 via RIS/txt export/import eliminated the author, title, and editor fields. these were in the book and book section format -- nothing exotic. In one reference the process put the title in the notes field. I have the box stock output styles (that came with EN 8). This appears to be a serious problem still." Cheers, Thomas M.
