I have no access to windows firewall and the service Windows Firewall/Internet Connection Sharing will never start. I get an error message 10050 that says "A socket operation encountered a dead network."I have tried the following repairs1. New network cards both wired and wireless with the same results as the original.2. Checked TCP/IP properties to make sure DHCP is enabled3. Tried to "repair" connection but it would never get an IP address4. Ran AVG antivirus off of a flash drive that found a couple of Trojans and a bunch of spyware. I deleted th
Troubleshooting Winsock 10050 Errors The information in this article applies to: DameWare Mini Remote http://support.dameware.com/kb/article.aspx?ID=300058 Control Winsock Connect Error System Error 10050 Network is down Winsock Connect Error System Error 10050 The 10050 error is not directly related to the DameWare Mini Remote Control application. 10050 is a Windows Sockets (TCP/IP) error which points to a network configuration or implementation issue and can be duplicated outside of DameWare software. It error 10050 indicates that the "Network is down." This error may be reported at any time if the Windows Sockets implementation detects an underlying failure. It could indicate a serious failure of the network system (that is, the protocol stack that the Windows Sockets DLL runs over), the network interface, or the local network itself. According to Microsoft: error 10050 a "This behavior may occur when you use an Internet security (personal firewall) program to protect your computer. The personal firewall program blocks unwanted network access to your computer and may also prevent programs on your computer from accessing the network."
