TheMisio (TechnicalUser) http://www.tek-tips.com/viewthread.cfm?qid=1530306 (OP) 12 Feb 09 05:22 Hi All,Does anyone know if corrupted secedit.sdb database on Windows XP SP3 can impact on a logon speed?I have noticed that on many of our laptops, logon (especially applying personal settings) takes very long time. On all affected machines there was an error in the log stating an extended error applying a security policy.I have fixed the database using esentutl and noticed that the logon process is faster.Does anyone know why?I need to know this before recommending a fix on over a thousand laptops (all built on the same syspreped image).Regards,Michael RE: secedit.sdb database?!! Source: SceCliEvent Category: NoneEvent ID: 1202Computer: COMPUTERNAMEDescription:Security policies were propagated with warning. 0x4b8 : An extended error has occurred. For best results in resolving this event, log on with a non-administrative account and search http://support.microsoft.com for https://blog.techbunny.com/2010/08/03/scecli-warning-event-1202-on-windows-xp/ "Troubleshooting Event 1202's".The warning was repeated several times a day and it looked like the machine might not be process all our group policies correctly. A check in the "%windir%\security\logs\winlogon" log file repeatedly showed "Error 1208: An extended http://www.planningplanet.com/forums/primavera-version-pm5-pm6/495521/p6-installation-error-creating-project-management-database-e error has occurred. Error creating database." I did a little searching around on the web and suspected that the local security database, secedit.sdb was damaged. There were a couple of KB articles that danced around what error 1208 seemed to be going on (KB278316 and KB818464), but either the OS indicated wasn't XP or I wasn't seeing all the errors listed. But they seemed promising, so I tried one on each workstation. Option 1 - ESENTUTL /pRun ESENTUTL to repair the database using the command line below. Follow with the ever popular "gpupdate /force". esentutl /p %windir%\security\database\secedit.sdb Later, I came across a mention in KB884018 that indicated using ESENTUTIL /P on error 1208 error Windows XP could result in tattooing some previous GPO settings in the registry, but that wasn't a big concern for me. We don't often rely on GPOs to rollback to their previous settings if they are removed, we usually actively change each setting if we want to alter a GPO that was previously set. I not worried that I did anything that will affect our future policies, however if you are skeptical, use the next option instead.Option 2 - Rebuild the Security Database Open the %SystemRoot%\Security folder, create a new folder, and then name it "OldSecurity". Move all of the files ending in .log from the %SystemRoot%\Security folder to the OldSecurity folder. (You may need to use SAFE MODE to copy all of these, however I just skipped the ones that I couldn't copy.) Find the Secedit.sdb file in the %SystemRoot%\Security\Database folder, and then rename this file to "Secedit.old". Click Start, click Run, type mmc, and then click OK. Click Console, click Add/Remove Snap-in, and then add the Security and Configuration snap-in. Right-click Security and Configuration and Analysis, and then click Open Database. Browse to the %TEMP% folder, type Secedit.sdb in the File name box, and then click Open. When you are prompted to import a template, click Setup Security.inf, and then click Open. Copy %TEMP%\Secedit.sdb to %SystemRoot%\Security\Database. R

I try to install P6.2 standalone on Windows 7 32 bit. I have gone through several install/uninstall without success.I start form running setup from installation pack, follow step by step with no error, I observed SQL database was built and started from status line. It also shows that SQL Express 2005 database was successfully installed. Now a tricky part is that when it installs Project Management & Methodology Management and at the most end where it try to config new database the following errors are displayed one after another with just one option to click on "OK"Error Creating Project Management Database. Error 2Error Creating Methodology Management Database. Error 2Then it shows "Database alias PMDB exists. Do you want to create? YES/NO" and again"Database alias MMDB exists. Do you want to create? YES/NO" I have tried both YES & NO then it shows "Setup has finished installing P 6.2 on your computer. Now when I what to open local PMDB it shows error Unable to connect to database Would you like to configure the database connection now? the same issue as other people have, I cannot connect to local database. However I can still connect to database on the SQL server and work smoothly.I really need local database for trial & error, it is very useful for me. Last time when I upgrade from P5 to P6.2 there is no error at all thought it was on XP.Any can give a little light?Your advise is much appreciateThanks,PTP Top Printer-friendly version Login or register to post comments Send to friend Replies Tue, 2013-03-12 14:53 #1 Alexandre Faulx-B...
