I couldn't boot into Windows, so I tested the hard drive using Samsung's Utility available at: http://support-us.samsung.com/cyber/popup/iframe/pop_troubleshooting_fr.jsp?idx=51176&modelname=HD250HJ1 On running the scan, I see seatools for windows that the disc has LBA errors. What exactly is an LBA error? any way to salvage the data, or the Hard drive? hard-drive share|improve this question edited Sep 22 '15 at 15:10 bertieb 2,53851226 asked Jul 21 '10 at 17:15 Devdatta Tengshe 80081227 add a comment| 2 Answers 2 active oldest votes up vote 9 down vote accepted the Hard drive check utility had suggested that I format the Hard drive. Does that mean that I can safely use the disk after a low level format & it won't have any issues? If you provided more information both about the model of drive you are using as well as about the errors the Samsung utility reported you might get better answers. Without knowing the details of your situation all we can really do is speculate. Well, that, and perhaps wave our hands wildly in the air for emphasis. LBA is an acronym for Logical Block Addressing. In this case I assume it is just another, possibly more technically accurate way of referring to a "bad sector". Unless your hard drive is very old, the fi

After turning it on, I soon realised something wasn't working properly, so I plugged in the monitor have lying around for these types of situations, and was greeted by this error:error 123 lba 24852783Invalid formatFreeBSD/i386 bootDefault: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/kernel/kernelboot:Is there any way to salvage this or is https://forum.pfsense.org/index.php?topic=93263.0 the hard drive corrupted and I'd have to do a fresh install? You can try a reinstall, but that's about as low level of a failure as you'll see short of the drive not being detected at all. I'd run the HD diag tool from the vendor of the hard drive first, and only reinstall if thorough tests come back clean. CD for example. Sure, you can mount the pst devices as soon as the kernel is running, so you just need to get the thing off the ground (CD, floppy, ZIP, flash whatever) -Søren _______________________________________________ freebsd-current@freebsd.org mailing list http://lists.freebsd.org/mailman/listinfo/freebsd-current To unsubscribe, send any mail to "freebsd-current-unsubscribe@freebsd.org" [prev in list] [next in list] [prev in thread] [next in thread] Configure | About | News | Addalist | SponsoredbyKoreLogic

The first error I saw was "Windows was unable to save all the data for the file F:\$mft"....... Since then explorer locked up when i tried to access the drive and I tried to do a chkdsk on it but had it fail for not being able to access the partition. I then rebooted to see if that would fix the issue like it does sometimes, but the drive won't mount anymore. Disk management won't detect the drive, but it shows up under hardware (Maxtor - Drive #2). I can't open partition magic, and Ive tried using a program called "GetDataBack for NTFS" but that started crashing, so I saved a log of it. I'll post the log below. The 2nd(Maxtor) drive is the issue. Any ideas? Thanks!
