missing file or invalid serial number. You might want to try reinstall again. Take a look at the 4th reply in this thread: http://forums.adobe.com/message/5075289When you using the App Cleaner, make sure you remove all preferences and folders related to that version of the software. Let us know if this helps! Thanks, Amy Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 2. Re: error 131:4 jomckinney Oct 7, 2013 2:24 PM (in response to amxyz) I'm using mac osx10.6.8 and adobe suite cs5.5.I've used this computer and software for 2 years without a problem. About amonth ago, all of a sudden when launching Indesign it would open and freezeup. Then photoshop and illustrator. I've tried lots of different ideas fromforums, but nothing has worked. I have uninstalled all adobe and ran theAdobe Creative Cloud cleaner for adobe cs5.5 and this is when the error131.4 has now showed up maybe giving me some solution. Everything workswhen in safe mode. Like Show 0 Likes(0) Actions 3. My LaTeX install is TeXLive 20120719). I can read the document fine in Okular and Gmail's attachment preview, but a colleague that runs Acrobat Reader on Windows reports: "There was a problem reading this document (131)". EDIT: The error disappears when using \usepackage[demo]{graphicx}, which puts black boxes instead of the real images. They are all PDFs, PNGs and JPGs. Instead of using demo, I added the code for a \demoincludegraphics command, which makes the file work in Reader when using it to replace the logo in the headers, as shown below. But enabling it (using \includegraphics instead of \demoincludegraphics) and removing everything else also works in Reader! There is some strange global interaction that makes the file appear broken to Reader when enabling all the graphics... My code compiles fine, reason why I only attach the preamble and a simple text for a Minimal Working Example: \documentclass[12pt,lettersize,twoside]{article} \usepackage[utf8]{inputenc} \usepackage[spanish,es-tabla]{babel} \usepackage[fixlanguage]{babelbib} \usepackage{amssymb,amsmath} \usepackage{graphicx} \usepackage{array} \usepackage{caption} \usepackage{subfig} \usepackage{rotating} \usepackage{booktabs} \usepackage{multirow} \usepackage{calc} \usepackage{stfloats} \usepackage{fixltx2e} \usepackage{url} \usepackage[colorlinks=true,linkcolor=blue,citecolor=red]{hyperref} \usepackage[all]{hypcap} % Margins \usepackage[top=2cm, bottom=2cm, left=3cm, right=2cm]{geometry} % Make header show up in the first page \makeatletter \renewcommand\maketitle{

My operating system is Linux Mint 17 Qiana (I think this might be relevant). I've also just tested a few pdfs and I only encounter problems with posters and presentations made with beamer, not ordinary documents. I can open all the files I generate with the pdf viewer that came packaged with Mint, called Okular. I can open all the files on my Mac with Preview. So far so good. Then I have to give a presentation, so I whack my .pdf onto a usb stick and go to open the file on the standard windows machine that's in the seminar room (or any other machine running Adobe Reader). Adobe Reader gives the error "There was a problem reading this document (131)". Then I panic. I have found a way of fixing the problem (although I don't understand it). I run the following in the command line: gs -sDEVICE=pdfwrite -dNOPAUSE -dBATCH -DsAFER -sOutputFile=output.pdf input.pdf (gs is ghostscript.) So although there is a way of fixing the problem post hoc, I'd prefer it if the problem didn't exist at all. Does anyone know what's going on? Please ask for any more details that will be relevant to the question.
