December 11, 2008 by Heath Stewart (MSFT) // 12 Comments 0 0 0 When installing Visual Studio 2008, you might run into an error dialog that reads, Error 1330.A file that is required cannot be installed because the cabinet file D:\cab1.cab has an invalid digital signature. This may indicate that the cabinet file is corrupt. The path and name of the cabinet invalid digital signature error with a cab file may be different, but might often be D:\cab1.cab, where D: refers to your DVD drive. How to workaround this issue Some time ago I blogged that you should try copying the installation locally as in some cases this is related to brief network disconnects or disc read lag, or even a bad burn of an ISO image. You should still try that and other methods in some of the comments on that post first since those are for more likely problems. If you do not have Internet access, or have a restrictive firewall or proxy, setup may be failing to verify the signature because it cannot access the online certificate revocation list (CRL). This is most likely if you encounter the error on cab1.cab for VS2008 or MSDN. You’ll need a copy of setreg.exe which is available in the .NET Framework SDK, which is now part of the Windows SDK. By default, a revocation list is checked so Internet access is required. At any user privilege level, you can run the following command to disable CRL checks using option 3: setreg.exe 3 FALSE If yo

The problem seems to be with not being able to successfully setreg exe download verify the digital signature of the CAB file(s). DO NOT CANCEL AN UPGRADE IF YOU SEE THIS ERROR. FOLLOW THE SOLUTION BELOW, THEN CLICK 'OK' TO THE ERROR MESSAGE AND CONTINUE THE UPGRADE Cause The WilComm installer is digitally signed to ensure compatibility with Windows 2008. Our software is signed with a digital certificate from the third-party certificate authority DigiCert. The default Windows 2008 installation does not recognise DigiCert as a valid certificate authority, however normally Windows will periodically download an updated certificate authority list from Microsoft. Servers that do not have a live internet connection will not be able to download the updated certificate authority list and this can cause the invalid digital signature error. Solution View the properties of the Data1.cab file in root directory of the WilComm 4.8.0.2 installer. On the Digital Signature tab, click the Wilkinson Electronic Document Solutions signature and click Details. The certificate in the signature cannot be verified indicates that Windows does not recognise DigiCert as an authorised Certificate Authority. Download the DigiCert Assured ID Code Signing CA-1 certificate from https://www.digicert.com/digicert-root-certificates.htm Right-click the .crt file and choose Install Certificate Click Next and chose the place the certificate into the Trusted Root Certification Authorities store. Click Next and Yes to install the certificate. (It may take a couple of minutes for the next screen to appear) On Windows 2008 SP1/SP2 you also need to Download and Install the DigiCert Assured ID Root CA certificate. The Data1.cab properties should now indicate that the digital signature is ok. Continue the WilComm 4.8.0.2 software upgrade/install.
