My Norton was also nearing the end of my contract so I thought this message may be something to do with that, so I purchased https://community.flexerasoftware.com/showthread.php?141427-Error-1406-Could-not-write-value and downloaded the Norton Antivirus 2005 and while installing it I got the following message "Error 1406 could not write value to key\software verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel." could error 1406 this be related to anything that MRU Blaster may have done and if so how do I fix the issue? gordie, Apr 24, 2005 #1 GDarko Guest Hi, looks like you have deleted the text file that holds information about your subscription with Norton. The best thing to so is visit the web site and see if theres any help! good luck GDarko, Apr 27, 2005 #2 todd Guest I am getting a similar error error 1406 could when installing NAV 2005 except it refers to being unable to write value Norton Antivirus to key \Software\symantec\shared technology\livereg\apps . I have repeatedly uninstalled NAV 2005, NAV 2002, and deleted the symantec folders before attempting the install. I'm about to say screw it and get my money back and just have the free AVG which seems to do just as good a job. ****@carolina.rr.com Last edited by a moderator: May 3, 2005 todd, May 3, 2005 #3 TallMaster Guest Maybe you could try this: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPOR...88256b4b005eb010?OpenDocument&src=bar_sch_nam It could be a problem with registry key permissions. TallMaster, May 3, 2005 #4 Kevin Babu Guest If you have Spysweeper installed, diable it before installing the NAV Add permissions to the HKEY Hives and rename symantec folders under HKLM\Software\symantec and HKCU\Software\symantec restart and try again... if this does'nt help.. keep on clicking on 'ignore' when you receive the same error.. Turns out I had put '1b' for a Product Properties version number (since I had named an earlier version '1' and made some minor changes). I removed the 'b' , re-compiled and the error went away. The article mentioned above claims that alphanumeric symbols are not allowed and cause the error. But, the following version runs ok: 2.1.0 RC 1 while 2.0 RC 1 throws the mentioned error. Thus, I suppose the version might start with 3 numbers separated by dot and then anything can be appended, except for some special symbols maybe (I'm not experienced in Regex to compile correct expression). And, of course, you should use Direct Editor for this, the Product Properties are validated stricter. Anyway, IS sometimes seems "a dark chest of wonders" for me Reply With Q
