Error 14140 Workgroup Manager

This discussion is locked Christopher@CMU Level 1 (0 points) Q: Unable to save WM managed preferences I have setup a new Snow Leopard Server (10.6.4) in a Magic Triangle setup (Dual Directory Integration), but am not able to manage preferences from within Workgroup Manager and am wondering if I might be missing something.I've bound it to AD, ran "sudo dsconfigad -enablesso", setup the server as OD master, and checked that my DNS is all correct. When I attempt to save a change I've made to a setting for 1 computer (eg. Energy Saver pref to turn off the computer everyday at 8pm), I get an error message saying, "Error while saving record "compname$": The directory system schema does not support storing Managed Desktop settings." This gives me a message in the console from WorkGroup Manager, "DirServices [dsAddAttribute] error: -14140"Also, when I push the button to create a new computer group for my macs I get the following error: "Got unexpected error Error of type eDSNoStdMappingAvailable (-14140) on line 1268 of /SourceCache/WorkgroupManager/WorkgroupManager-361.3.1/PMMUGMainView.mm" This same message shows up in the Console. In WM, I am authenticated as a domain admin to the Active Directory and can see all the users, user groups and computers from the AD, but no computer groups. The button to create a new user, new user group, or new computer are greyed out, and only the New Computer Group is available, though as stated above, I can't actually use it.Other things that might be helpful: In my Search Policy, AD is listed above the OD. I have only bound one mac client machine to it as a test. OD is the only service currently running on the server. Mac

So far I've got the clients logging on ok,group folders mount nicely and I can see AD users and groups from workgroup manager. But when I try to add a home directory for an AD user i get - https://macosx.com/threads/creating-active-directory-users-from-workgroup-manager.52241/ 'Got unexpected error Error of type -14140 on line 1127 of PMMUGMainView.mm' I get the same if I try to create a new active directory user so it looks like workgroup manager is having problems writing to the active directory. Has anyone seen and resolved this? #1 babaton, May 3, 2005 Go3iverson uix_expand uix_collapse Registered Joined: Mar 8, 2003 Messages: 1,069 Likes Received: 0 WGM's connection to AD is stricly read only. Even if your authenticated to AD, with an account that has R/W access, you will not be able to update your AD from WGM, unless you extend the schema of the AD to include the OS X specifc attributes. I highly do not suggest modifying your schema. You have the OS X Server so you won't have to! Why do you need to add the home directory in WGM for your AD? Just go into the properties of the user account in the AD and set the home folder share directly in there. Just specify it as you would any other share. #2 Go3iverson, May 3, 2005 babaton uix_expand uix_collapse Registered Joined: Feb 11, 2005 Messages: 7 Likes Received: 0 thanks, that works nicely but with one problem. It doesn't move the "home" to the network, just mounts the empty directory.Which is actually fine but at the same time AD users are locked out

I've been working on this project for weeks and can't seem to get it right. After MANY reinstalls and several configurations, I've error 14140 hit a brick wall and have decided to finally seek your help. I am a Network Administration student and have been trying to "get ahead of the game" by teaching myself Windows Server over the summer, allowing myself to make mistakes before it counts. I have several Apple devices, and a few PCs. I've been running Snow Leopard Server for a while up until I upgraded straight to Mountain Lion Server. I knew upgrading meant I error 14140 workgroup would lose the ability to bind Windows Clients to the directory (thanks apple), so I set up Server 2012 Standard to run along side my OS X server. I'm calling all of this an investment towards my future career.  My ultimate goal is to have AD authenticate all users and provide GPOs to Windows Clients (Done). As far as OS X, I need profile manager to be fully functional with my AD users. If anything, I need Mobile Accounts working on the Macs.  In the beginning, I started by binding OS X to the AD, then tried using Workgroup Manager to set the mobile home by browsing to the AD and modifying setting that way. Of course, that didn't work, for I was trying to add user data to an attribute that did not exist in AD. What next? I managed to find a .ldf file that supposedly contains all of Apple's Open Directory attributes, and (think I) figured out how to import that into AD.  (This is the command I used: ldifde -i -u -f c:/apple.ldf -j . -c "cn=Configuration,dc=test-ad" #configurationNamingContext) Ideally, this would add the attributes I needed to AD, in turn allowing me to modify them in Workgroup Manager. Well, that didn't work. (I get this error before and after attribute import: Error of type eDSNoStdMappingAvailable (-14140) on line 1351 of /SourceCache/WorkgroupManager/Workgro
