tengo un viejo PII al cual le ha petado el disco duro, he comprado uno igual que el que tenia (80 GB) y a la hora de instalar mi distribucion preferida, me he encontrado con el error 18 que comento arriba, he leido en google que dicho error es por que la bios de mi viejo ordenador http://www.ubuntu-es.org/node/124880 no reconoce este disco, me extraña ya que antes tenia un disco exactamente igual (compre la misma marca y la misma capacidad de disco), no tengo claro el porque de esto, con el disco viejo el sistema me fue limpiamente y a la primera pero ahora se resiste a pesar de que el hardware es el mismo (con la excepcion de una tarjeta de sonido ISA que le puse con posteriridad y que no creo que tenga nada que ver con el problema). He leido por ahi error 18 que una forma de "engañar a la bios" es crear una particion de unos 50 mb /boot y luego el resto de disco / ademas de la correspondiente swap. No obstante no estoy muy seguro de que eso funcione. Alguien me puede confirmar si estoy en lo cierto, gracias anticipadas. Este error se origina cuando se trata de leer bloques lineales. Este problema lo podemos encontrar en discos (E)IDE mayores 512MB o de 8GB en máquinas antiguas. Una de las soluciones propuestas y que parece ser efectiva, es crear al principio del disco, una partición primaria de unos 380 megas, sistema de archivos ext3, punto de montaje /boot. En el resto una partición extendida con todas las lógicas deseadas. Es algo similar a lo que se hacia en el tiempo del msdos con el ontrack disk manager para discos duros de mas de 30 megas. Saludos. Por lo que se me he de ir a seleccionar particiones de forma manual y ahi determinar que esa particion tiene como punto de montaje /boot y la otra con punto de montaje / ¿tan solo he de hacer eso?.
