Not associated with a trusted sql server connection Error Message When starting an ArcSDE service using an SDE schema, one of the following SQL Server #18452 error messages may be returned: "Login Failed. Not associated with a trusted sql server connection.""Login failed. The login is from an untrusted domain and cannot be used with Windows authentication." Cause SQL Server has been configured to use only Windows accounts for connecting to the database. When creating an SDE-schema geodatabase, the ArcSDE Post Installation wizard creates a SQL Server login for the SDE user.Setting SQL Server to only accept Windows-authenticated logins does not prevent SQL Server logins from being created, only from being used. When the ArcSDE service created by the Post Installation wizard starts, it attempts to connect to the database with a SQL Server login, SDE. This fails because SQL Server logins are not accepted. In order to install ArcSDE using an SDE schema, SQL Server has to be set as using Mixed Authentication Mode (Windows accounts or SQL Server accounts). Solution or Workaround To resolve this issue, reconfigure SQL Server's authentication mode.SQL Server 2005 or 2008: ▪ Go to Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server 2005(8) > SQL Server Management Studio. ▪ In the Object Explorer, right-click the Server and select Properties.▪ In the Server Properties dialog box select the Security page. ▪ Under Server authentication, select SQL Server and Windows Authentication Mode. The server must be restarted before this will take effect.SQL Server 2000: ▪ Go to Start > Programs > Microsoft SQL Server > Enterprise Manager. ▪ Right-click the Server name.▪ Select Properties > Security. ▪ Under Authentication, select SQL Server and Windows. The server must be restarted before this will take effect. Created: 5/5/2016 Last Modified: 5/5/2016 Article ID: 000010453 Software: ArcSDE 10, 9.0, 9.1, 9.2, 9.3, 9.3.1 Is This Content Helpful?
