Back Excel Using Office Data Connection files (.odc) and the DataConnections Web Part in SharePoint to Specify External Data Connections in Newly Created Excel Workbooks. by Diego Oppenheimer, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/818954 on October 15, 2008 | 0 Comments | 0 Share Today's author, Christian Stich, a Program Manager on the Excel Services team, discusses how to enable users to quickly and easily create workbooks using external data connections specified in server based data connection files. Overview Excel and Excel Services support importing external data, which can https://blogs.office.com/2008/10/15/using-office-data-connection-files-odc-and-the-dataconnections-web-part-in-sharepoint-to-specify-external-data-connections-in-newly-created-excel-workbooks/ be specified using connections embedded in the workbook itself or in Office Data Connection (.odc) files. One of the advantages of using .odc files is that any updates to the external data connection properties only have to be done once in the .odc file itself - any workbook using the .odc file for its data connection will use the updated connection properties. Another advantage of .odc files is that the user can open an .odc file directly, which results in Excel creating a new workbook that already contains the external data connection. Excel Services can only open .odc files that are located in trusted data connection libraries. For additional information please see White paper: Excel Services step-by-step guides and Plan external data connections for Excel Services Creating an .odc file on SharePoint and making it easily accessible .odc files are stored in trusted data connection libraries. It is desirable to provide users with an easy means of accessing these .odc files. This can

Just been really really tied up exploring every nook and corner of SharePoint 2007. I have received a HUGE number of messages from my site, asking if I am error 1919 writing a book on SharePoint. Well I am not, but await a big announcement on similar lines. In this post I am going to solve some very critical problems every InfoPath 2007 developer faces, centered around customizing forms server, and giving it exactly the look and feel you need, or exactly the workflow/pageflow you need, alongwith demonstrating error 1919 office a somewhat complex (yet simple) application. The problem description - Northwind Traders have a SQL Server database called "Northwind". They have a table there called "Customers". While the system works, there is a certain power user who wishes to be able to maintain "Notes" for a given customer. While he could involve IT in developing such an application, he wants to try his hand at SharePoint, and be able to connect Northwind.Customers to a SharePoint list, and use SharePoint to store notes (or anything such) for a given customer. Thus, in this example I am going to demonstratea single infopath form, hosted in sharepoint/forms services, that is rendered through the browser, and has the ability to aggregate data from both a SQL Database, and a SharePoint List. Additionally, I am going to make this form in such a manner that the user doesn't have to deal with any "infopath-ness". i.e. no specifying a .xsn filename, it will talk/walk/and behave 100% like an ASP.NET app. 100% flexibility/customizability. Solved Cannot populate Infopath drop-down with SQL data Posted on 2008-10-14 InfoPath MS SQL Server 2005 MS SharePoint 1 Verified Solution 4 Comments 791 Views Last Modified: 2012-06-27 Hi I'm trying to populate an Infopath drop-down box with data from a view on SQL server but having a problem. I am using an ODC file on my MOSS (Sharepoint 2007) site to connect to the drop-down ie; using the Data Connection wizard and selecting the ODC file from the list of Data Connections (I have already verified that I can extract data using the ODC file in Excel so the ODC does work for that purpose) but it gives me the following error: The form contains XML that cannot be parsed: A string literal was expected, but no opening quote character was found. Line 6, Position 18 -----------------^ I'm thinking that the format of the file may be incorrect = any ideas? thanks Fergal 0 Question by:fjkilken Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 28 Best Solution byclayfox I would verify InfoPath can connect successfully to the SQL data via ODBC as a test. Make sure you have some sample data. You could also try connecting to the ODBC data di
