The client would always get an IP address from the DHCP server running on our 2k8 R2 machine - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH109985.html that was until yesterday. Now we get an error from the Ghost client saying it can't find a DHCP server. Nothing has changed from the Ghost perspective - we have several USB drives for different hardware and all have failed over night with the same error - so there must be something wrong with the DHCP server. I can't think of anything https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/aac964f5-05e5-4c7d-a7f5-e7efcbb1634d/usb-boot-device-no-longer-getting-ip-address-from-dhcp?forum=winserverNIS that has changed with it either though. Looking at the log files in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\DHCP there is no mention of failed attempts to get an IP address but when I look at the statistics for the DHCP server (right click -> Display Statistics) I can see the number of "Discovers" and "Offers" going up by 4 every time I boot a PC off a USB drive. This would suggest DHCP requests are getting to the server but for some reason no addresses are being handed out. There is a Network Access Policy Server running on the same box but Network Access Protection is disabled for all DHCP scopes on that server. We only have one DHCP server. Any ideas?Hibs Ya Bass! Reply Subscribe RELATED TOPICS: DHCP Server My DHCP server hates me Ubuntu DHCP Server Fails to Start   4 Replies Mace OP George1421 Jul 14, 2011 at 9:56 UTC Are you sure your new DHCP server is functioning correctly? As a test (with your administrators approval) specify a static IP address on your computer. With this static address (given to you by your administrator) ensure you can reach your ghost server. If you can then focus on your dhcp server configurations. If you can't I would start to look at the networking hardware. 1 Sonora OP elder879 Jul 14, 2011 at 12:13 UTC At the company I work for we run the ghostcast server on an entirley seperate network from the 'actual' work network.  I have a generic wireless router with the radio disabled providing DHCP, tied to a switch to connect my server and clients.  Eases the burden all the way around. 0 Tabasco OP ldeweaver Jul 14, 2011 at 12:45 UTC Could you press F8 when client booting to DOS (When it says starting PCDOS) and run it step by step and see if there are any error messages when loading the network driver? (since DHCP has given an IP address, network should be OK but just to make sure) 0 Tabasco OP ldeweaver Jul 14, 2011 at 12:54 UTC you might have a rogue dhcp server somewhere I have included some software to help you see if that is the case.
