Vista for some reason dosnt register VBScript. What you have to do is first of all find where vbscript.dll is, mine was in C:\Windows\System32, but I think it changes dependant on your version. Next you need to go to start http://forums.support.roxio.com/topic/19110-found-fix-for-internal-error-2738-install-error/ -> accessories and the right click on command prompt and click "run as administrator", next type "cd C:\Windows\System32" (replace the dir if its differnt for you) and then type "regsvr32 vbscript.dll". It should then confirm that vbscript has been registered and everything should work. This will fix a few installs, i found the same problem with itunes as well. Hope this helps,Cheers,JamesWorked for me!Sweaty Back to top #2 walkermore walkermore Newbie Members 1 posts Posted 27 March 2010 - 12:19 AM sounds good to me Back to top #3 Brendon Brendon Digiital Guru Digital Guru -8,380,569 posts Gender:Male Location:Christchurch, N.Z. . You can quickly find out that you need to register vbscript.dll, but there is a nasty gotcha if you are too quick on the draw. 64-bit Windows also requires special http://csi-windows.com/blog/all/27-csi-news-general/161-fixing-windows-installer-error-2738 care. Ever since Windows Vista, Microsoft does not register vbscript.dll when the operating system installs. I have also found that my vbscript.dll registration can go missing (I have recently http://www.jakeludington.com/windows_7/20091115_error_2738_could_not_access_vbscript_run_time_for_custom_action.html setup auditing on the relevant COM registration keys in hopes that I can find the culprit). If you are like me and you read “reregister vbscript.dll” you quickly open error 2738 a command prompt and type “regsvr32.exe vbscript.dll” If you do this on Windows Vista or Windows 7, this quick fix can make a mess. Assuming you are running with UAC turned on, a default command prompt will not be elevated. When regsvr32.exe runs it ends up registering vbscript.dll in HKCU. However, if your custom action runs in the deferred 2738 windows 7 system context (noimpersonate bit turned on), you will still have the error. This is because Windows Vista and Windows 7 ignore HKCU based COM registrations when elevated. The problem get’s a little deeper when you attempt to unregister vbscript.dll from HKCU using “regsvr32.exe -u vbscript.dll” because it will not unregister properly. You must manually delete the registry keys and then run regsvr32.exe while elevated. A related problem is having a damaged vbscript.dll COM registration in HKCU and a proper one in HKLM. The damaged HKCU one will be used by custom actions that are NOT running as administrator. Finally, I suspect, but have not been able to prove (yet) that some setups (MSI or EXE) use manual means to attempt add or remove (on uninstall) the DLL registration keys for vbscript.dll in HKCU. by Jake Ludington on October 18, 2014 Windows 7 "I got an error while trying to install software on my Windows 7 computer. This is the error message: Error 2738. Could not access VBScript run time for custom action. How can I fix error 2738?" This error is common to software applications that use VBScript for some portion of the install process. Error 2738 is an error that means VBScript is not properly configured to run on your computer. I encountered Error 2738 when I installed Verizon Access Manager, but there are many other times it can occur. To fix Error 2738 you may need to follow slightly different steps depending on your computer configuration. No matter what configuration you have for your Windows PC, the solution to this problem is incredibly geeky. It requires making some changes from the Windows command line, which is something most of us never have a reason to see. The first thing to figure out is whether you have a 64-bit or 32-bit version of Windows installed, because the solution will be different for each. This is listed in the System Control Panel, which you can access by either clicking Window key+Pause or by clicking Start and then right-clicking computer and choosing Properties. In either case, you will get a list of System features. The one you are looking for is System type: 64-bit Operating System or System type: 32-bit Operating System. Note: These same steps also apply to Windows Vista. Fixing Error 2738 on Windows 7 64-bit If you have a 64-bit operating system, you will need to follow these steps: Open a command line window as Administrator, which requires clicking Start typing cmd in the search box, then right-clicking on the cmd.exe program and choosing Run as Administrator. Next paste the following in the command line and hit enter. reg delete "HKCU\SOFTWARE\Classes\Wow6432Node\CLSID\{B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8}" /f That previous command removes the incorrect entry for VBScript support on 64-bit Windows 7. Next you need to make sure VBScript is properly registered by typi
