Found Fix for Internal Error 2738 Install Error Started by Sweaty Bullitts , Mar 17 2007 09:27 PM Please log in to reply 5 replies to this error 2738 topic #1 Sweaty Bullitts Sweaty Bullitts Rookie Members 14 posts Posted 17 March 2007 - 09:27 PM Found this in a MSDN forum:Jamie Hollingworth Hi, found the problem. Vista for some reason dosnt register VBScript. What you have to do is first of all find where vbscript.dll is, mine was in C:\Windows\System32, but I think it changes dependant on your version. Next you need to go internal error 2738 to start -> accessories and the right click on command prompt and click "run as administrator", next type "cd C:\Windows\System32" (replace the dir if its differnt for you) and then type "regsvr32 vbscript.dll". It should then confirm that vbscript has been registered and everything should work. This will fix a few installs, i found the same problem with itunes as well. Hope this helps,Cheers,JamesWorked for me!Sweaty Back to top #2 walkermore walkermore Newbie Members 1 posts Posted 27 March 2010 - 12:19 AM sounds good to me Back to top #3 Brendon Brendon Digiital Guru Digital Guru -8,380,546 posts Gender:Male Location:Christchurch, N.Z. the error occurs the setup process will fail to complete. Note: You may also encounter this error message while installing certain third-party applications on Windows Vista. Cause of the Error On Windows Vista, the Windows Installer utility does not load the script engines that are registered in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER registry key for security reasons. In technical terms, when this happens, normal users get an elevated access to execute their libraries as script engine. However, this happens only if the custom action is not attributed explicitly with msidbCustomActionTypeNoImpersonate (0x0800). This accounts for elevation of privilege attack. In this case, Windows Installer generates error 2738 for type 6 actions or error 2739 for type 5 action. Additionally, the following Windows error is generated: Error 1603: ERROR_INSTALL_FAILURE Resolution Methods To resolve this error message, you need to ensure that the DLL files vbscript.dll and jscript.dll are not registered in the HKEY_CURRENT_USER root registry key. If they are, you need to delete them from this location, and re-register the files on the system. Let's go through the steps to perform these actions: On the Start menu, select Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then press Enter. In the Registry Editor window, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ B54F3741-5B07-11CF-A4B0-00AA004A55E8} Here, if the entry for VBScript exists, delete it. Next, navigate to the following registry key: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID\{ F414C260-6AC0-11CF-B6D1-00AA00BBBB58} Here, if the entry for JScript exists, delete it. Next, open Start menu, select Run, in the Open box, type the following commands one-by-one and then press Enter to re-register vbscript.dll and jscript.dll that exist in the system32 directory. regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll Error 2738 on Windows XP On a Windows XP computer, you may receive the following error message when you attempt to install or uninstall Palm HotSync software: Internal Error 2738 Cause of the Error This error message may occur due to some type of problem with Microsoft Windows Script Host.
