This may be because out-of-date or incorrectly configured security or firewall software is interfering, an old version of iTunes is installed, an entry in your hosts file redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see error 1004 above), or because of your Internet proxy settings. If you are using a proxy, try without using one or with a known-good network. If that does not resolve the issue, follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues. Error 3014 may indicate that you need to free up more disk space on the computer before trying to restore again. Error 3194 most likely indicates you do not have the latest version of iTunes installed Update to the latest version of iTunes. Before going on, make sure the following is true: You are connected to the internet You have the latest version of iTunes. Currently, that is iTunes 10.1 for both Mac and Windows If you're still having problems, here are some troubleshooting tips to fix and resolve various iTunes and iOS software update connection errors: http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/18/itunes-network-connection-timed-out-error-3259-iphone-update-fix/ Fix iTunes Network and iPhone Update Connection Errors There are numerous reasons you might encounter a network connection error with iTunes or iOS updates, try these fixes: Disable Firewall and Anti-Virus This is often the simplest solution and this is what you should try first. Temporarily disabling your antivirus software and firewalls often works to cease the network time outs. I can't give specific instructions for this because there are so many different types of antivirus and firewalls out there, but it's usually just a matter of finding the program in question and disabling it. Obviously, once the iOS update has been run successfully, you'll want to re-enable the firewall or antivirus. Uninstall and Re-install iTunes This seems to be more effective for Windows users, but sometimes just uninstalling iTunes and re-installing the latest version is enough to resolve network connection errors. Flush DNS Cache Sometimes flushing your DNS cache is enough to resolve the network time outs, here is how to do this for Mac OS X and Windows: Flushing DNS Cache in Mac OS X We've covered this before but here's a reminder: Launch the Terminal from /Applications/Utilities At the command p

causes for the issue: 1 – There is an Internet connection issue or 2 – There is a computer security application or other program blocking the connection between the iTunes application and the Apple servers. Common iTunes Network Connection Timed Out Errors The network connection timed out error and related problems are commonly reported by consumers when trying to update their respective iDevice to a newer version of the iOS software. Once the upgrade has occurred, the iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch then fail to connect to the iTunes Store. Some of the common errors displayed for this error include: iTunes Error 9808 Variations of iTunes Error -3259 “Network Connection Timed Out” “There was an error downloading your music (-3259)” “There is a problem downloading the software” “iTunes could not connect to the Store. If the alternative website loads in the device or computer’s web browser then the Internet connectivity cause can be eliminated as a reason for the error. Step 2 – Ensure the most current version of iTunes is installed on the target computer. You can verify the version of the iTunes program by selecting the “Help” and then “About” menu options from the primary iTunes file menu. A pop-up window will then display showing the version of the software installed on your computer. You can also select “Help” and “Check for Updates” from the iTunes File menu to check for software updates if manual verification and updating is not desired or too many steps for your personal preferences.
