I getting “Error 403: AuthorizationFailed” in this simple WebSphere example web.xml? up vote 0 down vote favorite I'm using WebSphere 7. I have a simple example set up with web.xml as shown below. This is how I test it: I start with no user and no group in WebSphere I try to access the page (/restricted/topsecret.html) I'm prompted to log in. I cannot. I add a user/password "rob/password" using the WebSphere admin console. I can now log in, but I cannot see the page. I get a "403: AuthorizationFailed" error. I add a group called "ROLE1" and I assign that group to user "rob" using the WebSphere admin console. I restart firefox, I can still log in but I still get the "403" error. I wrote a little JSP (below) to output the logged in username, but even after logging the username is still null. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?? Thanks! Rob

Unanswered question This question has not been answered yet. Hello all, I have an application that uses J2EE security. We're using BA. For resources to which a user is not granted access to they receive the "Error 403: AuthorizationFailed" page. I would like to replace or redirect that event to my own page but I'm not sure how. Could someone http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10707001/why-am-i-getting-error-403-authorizationfailed-in-this-simple-websphere-examp direct me to a page or doc that tells me how? Thanks. I was under the impression that you may have been able to do that in the descriptor but wasn't sure what to add. The docs I found made references to setting an error page in the context of setting up a forms based login, ie.

Cause Enhanced documentation Answer When logging into Maximo with error 403 LDAP configured, the browser generates a login dialog box for the user to enter their credentials. If the user enters credentials and a "403--Unauthorized" error occurs, it is generally a configuration problem in the WebSphere group to role error 403 authentication mapping. because you have Application Server Security configured in your environment and there seems to be an issue with Security role to user/group mapping configuration. Solution: Login to WebSphere Stop the application server (MXServer in my case) Go to Applications >> WebSphere enterprise applications Click on your application (MAXIMO in my case) Click on Security role to user/group mapping Check the checkbox for Role - maximouser (in my case) Select the value as All Authenticated in Application's Realm from the Map special Subjects drop down menu Restart the Application Server It should work now.
