The only change was the Windows Updates. If I change the VPN selection from PPTP VPN to Automatic then it tries to connect to the VPN server using a L2TP IPsec connection, but this get refused by the server because it's not yet setup to accept that type of connection.I deleted and reconfigured the VPN connection on the laptop, but the behavior is still the same.
