I'm using windows 8 and standard ptpp VPN. Every VPN I have created though results in the same error: Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established You might need to change the network settings for this connection The VPN works in Windows 7 and XP. I'm not sure if this has something to do with my new laptop or if its something with Windows 8 http://superuser.com/questions/525602/all-created-vpns-result-in-error-720 itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if there is any extra info I can provide please let me know. Edit: I've tried with virus scanner turned off and windows firewall turned off as well and I still receive the same error message. vpn windows-8 share|improve this question edited Jul 3 '13 at 13:08 nixda 15.9k65094 asked Dec 29 '12 at 0:22 campo 191116 migrated from serverfault.com Dec 29 '12 at 11:37 This question came from our site for system and network administrators. Needs more details. A lot more details. And may be more suitable for SuperUser anyhow... doesn't seem like it's a professional admin problem, at least as described. –HopelessN00b Dec 29 '12 at 0:40 thanks HopelssN00b, I'm not sure what info to provide that will be most helpful, if you let me know what info you need I can try and provide it. I'm happy to move to super user if that will be more appropriate. –campo Dec 29 '12 at 1:13 I don't know either, but look at what you have provided us - basically that a bunch of your PTPP VPNs throw a 720 error when you use Windows 8. Uh, alright, but that doesn't have any information that's going to be much good for troubleshooting. –HopelessN00b Dec 29 '12 at 1:22 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 13

I was working with a UMTS error 720 card, was connected with a VPN to a windows 2003 server over PPTP and experienced a bluescreen. After this, I have the following errors when connecting to the VPN: "Registering your computer on the network... Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need error 720 a to change the network settings for this connection" and in the event view I receive the following: EventID: 1, Source RasSstp CoId={A3478DFD-FFA4-4E8F-9DA3-CE829BDA777B}:The initial Secure Socket Tunneling Protocol request could not be successfully sent to the server. This can be due to network connectivity issues or certificate (trust) issues. The detailed error message is provided below. Correct the problem and try again. I tried to use the Rarepair.exe tool but it looks to work only on windows xp. I deleted the IP and TCP settings without any luck. I run a registry cleaner as well with out any luck. Your help will be greatly appreciated!
