the RTM version of windows 8 on my laptop and get an error code 720 when I try and connect error 720 vpn windows 7 to my VPN service. The VPN worked fine for a few weeks and then stopped working giving me the "Error 720 - A connection to the remote computer could not be established."
Error 720 Windows 10
I've switched VPN servers and turned off firewalls which have not resolved the issue. I'm hoping that it is just a bug in the yet to be released OS because before I started receiving the error 720, internet connection sharing would not work using the VPN either. Has anyone experienced the same issue and know the fix? I couldn't uninstall TCP/IP because it wasn't an option and the netsh would not run without admin privileges even though I was logged in under my admin account. I ended up doing a system refresh which fixed the error. This machine has gone through vista to 7 and now 8 so losing all the old "baggage" applications probably isn't a terrible thing. I'm still having issues with the apps from the start screen (xbox music, news, video, etc.) telling me they aren't connected to the internet while I am using my VPN service. I will post that issue in a separate posting. Thanks for all your assistance. I still think there are some inherent bugs in 8 that need to be worked out, but that is to be expected from any new OS. was recently re-setting up my Windows 7 VPN server and forgot an essential step that led me to get ‘Error 720: A Connection to the remote computer could not be established' when trying to connect to it with Windows-based clients. http://www.paulkiddie.com/2011/06/a-fix-for-error-720-a-connection-to-the-remote-computer-could-not-be-established-when-trying-to-connect-to-a-windows-7-vpn/ Turns out you might need to assign an IP address range to the VPN server, by doing the following: 1. Go into Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings 2. Right click on Incoming Connection 3. Click on http://en.remontka.pro/error-720-windows-8-and-8-1-solved/ the Networking tab and double click on the ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' checkbox4. Click the ‘Specify IP addresses' and type an IP range that is in line with your current router setup (e.g. if your LAN is on error 720 a 192.168.11.x network, then you might want to set it as follows):You should now find, like me, that the VPN works once more! to write this manual so that you can understand what to do. Guess I found a way to fix that 720 error in Windows 8 (also works in Win 8.1). Hope it will help you. So, the error shows itself when you try to establish some kind of Internet connection — PPPoE, PPTP, L2TP, etc. Sure, you have already searched for the right way to fix the error and definetely tried the commands: netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log And they didn't work, saying the access is denied. So, here are the steps you may follow to reset TCP/IP protocol in windows 8 and fix the 720 error: Download Process Explorer from Windows Sysinternals website: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us//sysinternals/bb896645.aspx Unzip and run it. Uncheck all operations, but the windows registry ones. Add two Filters from the Filter menu in Process Explorer. The First one should include process named netsh.exe, and the second — the result "ACCESS DENIED" (I used capital letters, not sure if it is necessary) Press Windows + X buttons on your keyboard and run Command Line as Administrator. Run the netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log command. It will not be able to complete all the necessary actions to reset the IPv4 protocol, but you will see a line in process explorer, telling you which parameter in windows registry failed to change. Press Windows + R buttons, type regedit to run registry editor. Navigate to the registry key from process monitor, click it with the right mouse button and select "Permissions". Set it to "Full Access", then click Ok. Repeat that netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log command. It will now work well. Repeat steps 5-7 with netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log command. Run netsh winsock reset command in coomand line. Restart your computer That's it, the error 720 shouldn't appear any more.
