Note, the solution involves modifying the registry on XP so it is not for the faint of heart.Note that a key symptom of this problem is that the modem connects and then disconnects just after trying to register the computer on the remote network.Step 1: Uninstall the WAN Miniport (IP) and WAN Miniport (PPTP)IMPORTANT: This procedure contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and make sure thatyou understand ho
connection, it went like this:
Error 720 Windows 10
- Modem would pick up the phone and dial. - Carrier sounds error 720 a connection to the remote computer windows 7 / handshaking would occur. - Username and password were checked and verified. - Then it would disconnect with an error https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-XP-and-Vista-discussion/Error-720-Dial-Up-Networking-could-not-negotiate-a-compatible/td-p/15304 code of "720" More on the message: Error 720 - the connection attempt failed because your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocol. I had tried every fix I could find. Removing the Winsock http://xenomorph.net/windows/issues/dial-up-error-720-ppp/ and Winsock2 keys, re-installing TCP/IP, and running a series of commands using the "netsh" tool. None of that worked. What seemed to work: "WAN Miniport (IP)" seemed to be messed up some how. It was listed twice in Device Manager. I had to remove the keys for the two entries from the registry, then I could remove the devices from Device Manager. I had to use the "devcon" command to re-install the "WAN Miniport (IP)" device. The command to restore the WAN Miniport (IP) device was: devcon.exe install %windir%\inf\netrasa.inf MS_NdisWanIp You can get DEVCON.EXE (32-bit and 64-bit) from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272/ You can get more info on this from here: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread18016.html Home Log in Copyright © 1999-2016 XdN

Solved Dial-up error 720 @ Windows XP Posted on 2007-05-27 Networking Hardware-Other Windows Networking Windows XP 1 Verified error 720 Solution 24 Comments 12,485 Views Last Modified: 2013-12-27 Hello everyone, I have a Thinkpad T43 which once upon a time could use it's intergrated dial-up modem flawlessly. Then, after a while of not trying to use the modem, I tried to connect through dial-up and got a 720 error after my login credidentials were verified. It reads "A connection to the remote error 720 windows compuyter could not be established. You might need to change the networks settings for this connection." Now, I have googled for this problem and apparently it's not rare. However, not solution I could find worked for me. First off, the modem passes all diagnostics and I have tried installing four different drivers. Then, I have tried resetting tcp/ip and winsock of windows (XP pro SP2). I have also tried all different options in the dial-up connection and of course also creating new connections and dialing to all sorts of different ISPs. Does anyone have a clue what windows bug is this? Thank you! 0 Question by:mixelogj Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google Best Solution bylhcit I am experiencing the same issues with the following computers, Lenovo T61, T60 and Lenovo 3000 N100 laptops, I am starting to believe its something related to IBM drivers as I found the problem always Go to Solution 24 Comments LVL 69 Overall: Level 69 Windows XP 29 Windows Networking 5 Networking Hardware-Other 4 Message Active today Expert Comment by:Merete2007-05-28 Hi, first you have to setup your internet connection, d
was recently re-setting up my Windows 7 VPN server and forgot an essential step that led me to get ‘Error 720: A Connection to the remote computer could not be established' when trying to connect to it with Windows-based clients. Turns out you might need to assign an IP address range to the VPN server, by doing the following: 1. Go into Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings 2. Right click on Incoming Connection 3. Click on the Networking tab and double click on the ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' checkbox4. Click the ‘Specify IP addresses' and type an IP range that is in line with your current router setup (e.g. if your LAN is on a 192.168.11.x network, then you might want to set it as follows):You should now find, like me, that the VPN works once more! I'll post up a tutorial on how I got it working and accessible to the public Internet soon.Sharing:TwitterFacebookLinkedInGoogle +1RedditMoreEmailPinterestPrintStumbleUponDigg Tags: error, vpn, vpn server, windows 7 About Paul Kiddie .NET developer at thetrainline.com, previously web developer at MRM Meteorite.
