Note, the solution involves modifying the registry on XP so it is not for the faint of heart.Note that a key symptom of this problem is that the modem connects and then disconnects just after trying to register the computer on the remote network.Step 1: Uninstall the WAN Miniport (IP) and WAN Miniport (PPTP)IMPORTANT: This procedure contains information about modifying the registry. Before you modify the registry, make sure to back it up and make sure thatyou understan
connection, it went like this: https://www.daniweb.com/hardware-and-software/microsoft-windows/threads/107004/error-720-a-connection-to-the-remote-computer-could-not-be-established - Modem would pick up the phone and dial. - Carrier sounds / handshaking would occur. - Username and password were checked and verified. - Then it would disconnect with an error error 720 code of "720" More on the message: Error 720 - the connection attempt failed because your computer and the remote computer could not agree on PPP control protocol. I had tried every fix I could find. Removing the Winsock dial up error and Winsock2 keys, re-installing TCP/IP, and running a series of commands using the "netsh" tool. None of that worked. What seemed to work: "WAN Miniport (IP)" seemed to be messed up some how. It was listed twice in Device Manager. I had to remove the keys for the two entries from the registry, then I could remove the devices from Device Manager. I had to use the "devcon" command to re-install the "WAN Miniport (IP)" device. The command to restore the WAN Miniport (IP) device was: devcon.exe install %windir%\inf\netrasa.inf MS_NdisWanIp You can get DEVCON.EXE (32-bit and 64-bit) from here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/311272/ You can get more info on this from here: http://www.daniweb.com/forums/thread18016.html Home Log in Copyright © 1999-2016 XdN

Then uninstall them then reboot and reinstall the drivers for that and done. 0 star98m 6 Years Ago I hunted for months for a solution to this problem RAS error code 720. I have a Thinkpad T60 and about six months ago was suddenly unable to use my Vodafone Vodem so I tried my old Vodafone card modem and it wouldn't work either. Even tried my Sony phone with a cable and it wouldn't work. When I've travelled for the last six months I have had to take my old T42 with me and all the modems work fine with that laptop. I have tried many solutions to this and wasted countless hours. Today I finally found a tiny free program called rarepair.exe - do a search and you can easily find it but I got it from here http://forums.practicallynetworked.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=131 Click on it and it removes all your network drivers, reboots your machine, reinstalls the drivers an
