I'm using windows http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25245854/windows-8-1-gets-error-720-on-connect-vpn 8 and standard ptpp VPN. Every VPN I have created though results in the same error: Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established You might need to change the network settings for this connection The VPN works in Windows 7 and XP. I'm not sure if this has something to do with my new laptop or if its something with Windows 8 itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if there is any extra info I can provide please let http://superuser.com/questions/525602/all-created-vpns-result-in-error-720 me know. Edit: I've tried with virus scanner turned off and windows firewall turned off as well and I still receive the same error message. vpn windows-8 share|improve this question edited Jul 3 '13 at 13:08 nixda 15.9k65094 asked Dec 29 '12 at 0:22 campo 191116 migrated from serverfault.com Dec 29 '12 at 11:37 This question came from our site for system and network administrators. Needs more details. A lot more details. And may be more suitable for SuperUser anyhow... doesn't seem like it's a professional admin problem, at least as described. –HopelessN00b Dec 29 '12 at 0:40 thanks HopelssN00b, I'm not sure what info to provide that will be most helpful, if you let me know what info you need I can try and provide it. I'm happy to move to super user if that will be more appropriate. –campo Dec 29 '12 at 1:13 I don't know either, but look at what you have provided us - basically that a bunch of your PTPP VPNs throw a 720 error when you use Windows 8. Uh, alright, but that doesn't have any information that's going to be much good for troubleshooting. –HopelessN00b Dec 29 '12 at 1:22 add a comment| 8 Answers 8 active oldest votes up vote 13 down vote Got this problem after migrating from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1. was recently re-setting up my Windows 7 VPN server and forgot an essential step that led me to get ‘Error 720: A Connection to the remote http://www.paulkiddie.com/2011/06/a-fix-for-error-720-a-connection-to-the-remote-computer-could-not-be-established-when-trying-to-connect-to-a-windows-7-vpn/ computer could not be established' when trying to connect to it with Windows-based clients. Turns out you might need to assign an IP address range to the VPN server, by doing the following: 1. Go into Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings 2. Right click on Incoming Connection 3. Click on the Networking tab and double click on the ‘Internet Protocol Version error 720 4 (TCP/IPv4)' checkbox4. Click the ‘Specify IP addresses' and type an IP range that is in line with your current router setup (e.g. if your LAN is on a 192.168.11.x network, then you might want to set it as follows):You should now find, like me, that the VPN works once more!
