The VPN worked fine for a few weeks and then stopped working giving me the "Error 720 - error 720 a connection to the remote computer could not be established windows 8 A connection to the remote computer could not be established." I've switched VPN servers and turned off firewalls which have not resolved the issue. I'm hoping that it is just a bug in the yet to be released OS because before I started receiving the error 720, internet connection sharing would not work using the VPN either. Has anyone experienced the

same issue and know the fix? Saturday, October 13, 2012 8:06 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I tried all the solutions you recommended and I hit a brick wall for one reason or another during the process. I couldn't uninstall TCP/IP because it wasn't an option and the netsh would not run without admin privileges even though I was logged in under my admin account. I ended up doing a system refresh which fixed the error. This machine has gone through vista to 7 and now 8 so losing all the old "baggage" applications probably isn't a terrible thing. I'm still having issues with the apps from the start screen (xbox music, news, video, etc.) telling me they aren't connected to the internet while I am using my VPN service. I will post that issue in a separate posting. Thanks for all your assistance. I still think there are some inherent bugs in 8 that need to be worked out, but that is to be expected from any new OS. I'm using windows 8 and standard ptpp VPN. Every VPN I have created though results in the same error: Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established You might need to change the http://superuser.com/questions/525602/all-created-vpns-result-in-error-720 network settings for this connection The VPN works in Windows 7 and XP. Edit: I've tried with virus scanner turned off and windows firewall turned off as well and I still receive the same error message. vpn windows-8 share|improve this question edited Jul 3 '13 at 13:08 nixda 15.9k65094 asked Dec 29 '12 at 0:22 campo 191116 migrated from serverfault.com Dec 29 '12 at 11:37 This question came from our site for system and network administrators. This problem seem to be only with Win8 and 8.1 users. Once the message appears, a VPN connection cannot be established until a repair is made. The problem (cause not fully https://community.spiceworks.com/how_to/65878-correct-a-vpn-720-error-in-windows-8-and-8-1 known) is in the WAN Mini-Ports. The solution is to remove the WAN Mini-Ports https://www.vpnhosting.cz/index.php/clanky/wan-miniport-repair-tool-solve-vpn-and-dial-up-error-code-720-and-similar-ppperrors.html and allow Windows to recreate them. Removing the WAN Mini-Ports can be a chore, but there is a utility that has made this a quick and easy process for me. I've now used it on many of my clients computers without issue. The utilities are at this site: https://www.vpnhosting.cz/index.php/clanky/wan-miniport-repair-tool-solve-vpn-and-dial-up-error-code-720-and-similar-ppperrors.html Run the appropriate repair tool, reboot, run the error 720 appropriate install tool. Problem solved. 2 Comments Cayenne PeterB123 Jan 24, 2014 at 08:17pm I had similar problems with 8.1 Pro clients when connecting to PPTP and IPSec Windows server hosted VPNs, and it may not be your issue, but I had to turn off the Automatic negotiation (assuming you're using the Windows VPN client) and specify the type, encryption, etc. matching what I was accepting on the Windows server side.
