my laptop and get an error code 720 when I try and connect to my VPN service. The VPN worked fine for error 720 a connection to the remote computer windows 7 a few weeks and then stopped working giving me the "Error 720 - A connection to the remote computer could not be established." I've switched VPN servers and turned off firewalls which have not resolved http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25245854/windows-8-1-gets-error-720-on-connect-vpn the issue. I'm hoping that it is just a bug in the yet to be released OS because before I started receiving the error 720, internet connection sharing would not work using the VPN either. Has anyone experienced the same issue and know the fix? Saturday, October 13, 2012 8:06 AM Reply | Quote Answers 0 Sign in to vote I tried all the solutions you recommended and I hit a brick https://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windows/en-US/783d8384-8880-494b-b011-7cc85ec6919d/windows-8-vpn-not-working-error-720?forum=w8itpronetworking wall for one reason or another during the process. I couldn't uninstall TCP/IP because it wasn't an option and the netsh would not run without admin privileges even though I was logged in under my admin account. I ended up doing a system refresh which fixed the error. This machine has gone through vista to 7 and now 8 so losing all the old "baggage" applications probably isn't a terrible thing. I'm still having issues with the apps from the start screen (xbox music, news, video, etc.) telling me they aren't connected to the internet while I am using my VPN service. I will post that issue in a separate posting. Thanks for all your assistance. I still think there are some inherent bugs in 8 that need to be worked out, but that is to be expected from any new OS. was recently re-setting up my Windows 7 VPN server and forgot an essential step that led me to get ‘Error 720: A Connection to the remote computer could not be established' http://www.paulkiddie.com/2011/06/a-fix-for-error-720-a-connection-to-the-remote-computer-could-not-be-established-when-trying-to-connect-to-a-windows-7-vpn/ when trying to connect to it with Windows-based clients. Turns out you might need to assign an IP address range to the VPN server, by doing the following: 1. Go into Network and Sharing https://support.ivacy.com/kb/how-to-solve-error-720-remote-computer-could-not-be-established/ Center > Change Adapter Settings 2. Right click on Incoming Connection 3. Click on the Networking tab and double click on the ‘Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)' checkbox4. Click the ‘Specify IP addresses' and error 720 type an IP range that is in line with your current router setup (e.g. if your LAN is on a 192.168.11.x network, then you might want to set it as follows):You should now find, like me, that the VPN works once more!
