I'm using windows 8 and standard ptpp VPN. Every VPN I have created though results in the same error: Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established You might need http://superuser.com/questions/525602/all-created-vpns-result-in-error-720 to change the network settings for this connection The VPN works in Windows 7 and XP. I'm not sure if this has something to do with my new laptop or if its something with Windows 8 itself. Any help would be greatly appreciated and if there is any extra info I can provide please let me know. Edit: I've tried with virus scanner turned off and windows firewall turned off as well and I still receive the same error message. vpn windows-8 share|improve this question edited Jul 3 '13 at 13:08 nixda 15.9k65094 asked Dec 29 '12 at 0:22 campo 191116 migrated from serverfault.com Dec 29 '12 at 11:37 This question came from our site for system and network administrators. Windows 7 workstation to a PPTP VPN being served by a Server 2003 machine running RRAS I received VPN Error: 720 "A connection to the remote computer might not be established. You might need http://thenubbyadmin.com/2010/09/12/solving-pptp-vpn-error-720-on-windows-7/ to change the network settings for this connection." This would happen after the "Verifying username https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/28664879/PPTP-VPN-to-Windows-Server-RRAS-Error-720.html and password" phase during the "Registering your computer on the network" phase. My Solution: Rebuild the TCP/IP stack by opening an elevated command prompt and running the following command: netsh int ip reset The Long Story: I'm running Windows 7 RC and have a PPTP VPN connectoid that connects to a Server 2003 RRAS server. I was able to successfully connect error 720 just yesterday but today when I attempt to connect it gets as far as "Registering your computer on the network" and then fails with Error: 720 "A connection to the remote computer might not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection." *sigh* I always hate it when things that worked one day suddenly and with seemingly no reason stop working. To my knowledge no updates have been applied to the vpn error 720 server or to my Windows 7 machine in the time between yesterday and today. First I check to see if my Virtual XP instance can connect to the VPN. I created a new VPN connectoid and was able to connect with no problems using simple default settings. I then looked at my Windows 7 connectoid's options and did a little twiddling like disabling "include Windows logon domain" (not sure how that got enabled in the first place) and moved it from PPTP to Automatic (all it does is delay the logon time while it tries to figure out how to connect from among the available options but I figured it was worth a try). Still no luck. I created a brand new connectoid using the default values for everything and it still gave me Erorr: 720. Fortunately I have a secondary VPN that I use for just such an occasion. It's via a SonicWALL TZ 180 using the lone SonicWALL Global VPN Client license that came with the firewall. I connected with that so I could check out the RRAS server. The RRAS service was started and the RRAS console showed that all seemed well. I decided to restart the RRAS service from the console and got a little misty that I was saying goodbye to 137 days, 15 hours and 43 seconds of uptime. Aft

Solved PPTP VPN to Windows Server RRAS - Error 720 Posted on 2015-04-29 VPN Windows Networking Windows Server 2012 1 Verified Solution 9 Comments 923 Views Last Modified: 2015-04-30 I have a conundrum with connecting to a Windows Server 2012 Essentials machine using PPTP. The server is behind a NAT router with port 1723 forwarded through to it. It's a Draytek router, so it handles the GRE protocol properly etc. And PPTP connections from the Internet to this server used to work. However, we don't have to connect to it very often, so I don't know at what stage it broke, or what changed. When I connect using a Windows 8.1 PC, I get the error "Error 720: A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection". Not the most helpful of messages. I get the same from two different Windows 8.1 PCs, and an iPhone configured as a PPTP client doesn't connect either. I know the credentials I'm sending are correct, and I've tried the username in the format "domain\username" and in the format "username" as well. In the System Event Log on the server, I get an error 20255 in RemoteAccess: "CoId={NA}: The following error occurred in the Point to Point Protocol module on port: VPN3-49, UserName: DOMAIN\username. A connection to the remote computer could not be established. You might need to change the network settings for this connection." I've tried configuring RRAS on the server to assign IP addresses from a static address pool, rather than getting them from DHCP, but that didn't help. The Windows 8.1 client PCs are configured to use MS-CHAP v2 for authentication, and the network policy on the server includes that as an option too. Anyway, I'm a bit stumped at the moment. I'm finding it hard to narrow down the problem further. Any suggestions where I could go from here, please? 0 Question by:wakatashi Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Google LVL 14 Best Solu
