I'm trying to make excel 2016 error bars a graph that is a bit large, and while I can scale everything else (text, line thicknesses), the top and bottom caps of the error bars almost disapear in comparison, and I would like to make them wider. So thickness is the only control. In xl2007 and newer you can alter the line end/start style but this is an arrow/circle/diamond rather than a perpendicular line. Excel. Both articles contained instructions for adding custom error bar values for individual horizontal error bars excel points, but judging from the emails I receive, a separate article on custom error bars is needed. You cannot add custom how to add error bars in excel 2016 error bar values to a single point in a chart. However, you can individual custom error bar values to all points in a plotted series. You need to put all of the individual error bar http://www.excelforum.com/showthread.php?t=793668 values into a range of the worksheet. I usually put these values in the same table as the actual X and Y values Manually Defining Custom Error Bars Sample Data and Charts Suppose we have the following data: X and Y values, plus extra columns with positive and negative error bar values for both X and Y directions. The data is set up so that, for example, cells C2 and http://peltiertech.com/custom-error-bars-in-excel-charts/ D2 have the values for the positive and negative horizontal (X) error bars for the point defined by X and Y values in A2 and B2. Cells E2 and F2 have the values for the positive and negative vertical (Y) error bars for this point. The series is plotted using all the data at once, with X in A2:A6 and Y in B2:6. The error bars are also drawn using all the error bar data at once: C2:C6 and D2:D6 for horizontal and E2:E6 and F2:F6 for vertical. The chart itself is easy: create an XY chart using the data in columns A and B. The protocols for adding custom error bars differ between Classic Excel and new Excel. After following the appropriate protocol below, the chart will have custom error bars on each data point, based on the additional columns of data. This chart shows just the Y error bars, to show clearly that each point has custom values different from other points: This chart shows the X and Y error bars: Important Note A single custom error bar value cannot be added to a single data point, and custom error bar values cannot be added to a series of data points one point at a ti

You can either use the Smart Error Bars function in fully automatic mode, or in Interactive Mode; for the latter, see the dedicated page on Interactive Mode. Fully automatic mode To use the fully automatic error bars excel mode, simply select your chart and click on the Ribbon (Excel 2007-2013) or toolbar or menu (Excel 2003) button. It does not matter whether you have selected a bar graph or a line graph, or a combination of both. The XL Toolbox will automatically locate your custom error data below or to the right of your chart data, depending on your preference. In the Preferences dialog, you can also set the desired offset, i.e. how many columns to the right or how many rows below the data the Toolbox should look for the error values. After adding the error bars to your chart, the Toolbox will select and highlight the corresponding cells on your spreadsheet, so that you can verify that everything is correct (see example). Error bar direction The XL Toolbox automatically determines the best combination of positive and negative error bars with the least overlap. Percentage Uses the percentage that you specify in the Percentage box to calculate the error amount for each data point as a percentage of the value of that data point. Y error bars and X error bars that are based on the percentage of the value of the data points vary in size. Standard deviation(s) Displays the standard deviation for the plotted values that is calculated for each data point and then multiplied by the number that you specify in the Standard deviation(s) box. The resulting Y error bars or X error bars are the same size and do not vary with each data point. Standard error Displays the standard error amount for all plotted values. A
