Error Displaying Local Variables Epic
Vista with cygwin and I have installed padwalker. I am getting a message whe I start a debug session that says "Error displaying local variables. Install padwalker and restart Eclipse or disable displaying of local variables" As far as I can tell padwalker is installed. Any ideas what I am doing wrong. I have installed Eclipse and EPIC, they look OK. (It's doing basic syntax checking on an example Perl program). http://stackoverflow.com/questions/9046795/how-to-operate-the-perl-debugger-in-eclipse-epic I then used PPM to install PadWalker (since that's what they say is needed to use the step debugger). Now, in Eclipse, when I try to step through the program, I get the error: "Error: install PadWalker module to see local variables". In PPM, I notice that it had installed PadWalker in area: "site", while all other Perl modules are installed in area: "perl". For area: "site", @INC shows: ... .../Environments/Active Perl/site/lib and for area: "perl", @INC shows: ... .../Environments/Active Perl/lib What should I do? My system: Windows 7 x64. Thanks in advance - Helen eclipse perl ppm epic share|improve this question asked Jan 28 '12 at 16:23 Helen Craigman 7001918 perl (modules that come with Perl) vs site (modules that didn't come with Perl) is a red herring. Both are searched for modules. Sorry I can't help you more than that. My only guess is that you have more than one install of Perl, and Padwalker is not installed in the one EPIC is using. –ikegami Jan 28 '12 at 21:54

I additionally installed the Padwalker module, and it's really useful having the local variables available when debugging a perl script. Unfortunately, I found some situations, where the Padwalker module (or the 'Show Local Variables' option of the EPIC debugger) corrupts the debugger. The most recent problem appears, when debugging code using an OLE interface (via WIn32::OLE). When the 'Show Local Variables' option is enabled the result in LastError() from a Win32::OLE->function() call is different using the debugger (wrong result) or just run the script (correct result). When I disable the option the debugger gives correct results, too. I assume, the problem is already known, although I couldn't find anything in the forum or bug database. If you already know this problem, could you please give a brief explanation and maybe a hint, whether it's intended to fix it. If this were new for you, I could send you my script to demonstrate it.
