At my new working place a print server is set up. But when trying to access it with "system-config-printer" and I enter the print server name I get the following error message: >CUPS server error >There was an error during the CUPS operation: 'client-error-forbidden'. The print server is within a local network and I am able to ping it. Has anybody an idea what I am doing wrong? My system is: E325 Lenovo Release 12.04 (precise) 64-bit Kernel Linux 3.2.0-40-generic GNOME 3.4.2 (I updated this morning) Thanks, Thomas Adv Reply April 23rd, 2013 #2 tgalati4 View Profile View Forum Posts Private Message This space is currently for rent . . You won't be able to perform any admin funtions from the web page (without allowing remote admin). If this is a Windows shared printer, then there may be another issue. On your machine, look in /var/log/cups for errors. Under the "Help" tab of system-confi

Well, it seems you were not alone, looking on other Forums for the answer showed that this problem is rarely answered. One solution given was to log in as Root and delete the printer and reinstall. That may have worked for him but not in my case. So, taking a lesson from Alexander the Great, I, http://www.pclinuxos.com/forum/index.php?topic=97342.0 so to speak, decided to "Cut the Gorgon Knot." I did a complete removal via Synaptic and then reinstalled CUPS, rebooted, went to PCC and had this nice little box with a green "+" and "-" signs in it. Back to Synaptic and loaded "task-printing," rebooted, opened PCC, Hardware, and the Print Icon was there, as was the icon for my Brother HL-2040, with the triangular icon with the "!". I tried to delete the printer and succeeded. I tried to do a reinstall and it went right through.Evidently CUPS had a bit that got stuck crosswise. The original problem is below.Deb I had "piggy-backed" on another thread about this problem, but thought I really should give it a thread of its own.Any time I try to do anything with my printer, I get the following error message, "client-error-forbidden." There is also a yellow triangular sign with an exclamation point on the printer icon in PCC when the other computer is running XP.The printer is a Brother HL-2040, which is located on another machine (connected via a wireless router), which at this time is bein

I am very happy for the most part. I have been migrating away from Windows XP because I lost the install disk. Hardware=eeepc 1000HE. OS=CrunchBang Statler, ran updates at first run, printer support, did not go with Zen. Sound works, wireless works. I know next to nothing about linux.I am trying to get my printer working. It is a Brother HL 5250DN. Not directly connected to computer, trying to configure as network printer. When I run System/Printers/Configure Printers, enter user password, add printer/network printer/find printer responds "Brother HP Laserjet 4050" Press Forward finds drivers, I select printer from database, I select the recommended driver, get to print test page, page gets submitted, nothing. Takes me to printer properties I press print test page or print self-test page, gets submitted but nothing. I have also tried the other drivers.I've also tried going to http://localhost:631/adminpress add printer button, input username/password gives response "Add Printer Error" "Unable to add printer:" "Forbidden". If I enter Root and user password brings back screen to enter user/password. The printer works in Windows, there is paper in the printer. I don't know what to do. I've tried to resolve by searching the web but I'm lost. Last edited by jhi (2011-12-04 17:29:29) Offline Be excellent to each other! #2 2011-11-25 00:54:12 chaanakya #!
