From looking at that page it seems that the internal server error twitter photo upload limit should be associated with the user, though the user has only sent 9 DMs today. Is there a rate limit for apps? rest api error codes best practices Looking at my database it has only sent 142 messages, distributed over ~30 users today. It also did follow about 10-15 accounts on behalf of those users today, is there a rate limit that comes into play when https://twitter.com/dburka/status/425395988719624193 those two are combined? Thanks episod 2012-06-11 15:05:42 UTC #2 Direct Messages are not rate limited, though individual accounts have a limit on the amount of DMs they can send per day. When you ran into the limit on a user -- is it one in your full control? DMs sent by the account, whether sent from your app or not, count toward an account's allowances. Also, a "day" in the "per day" consideration in this case is https://twittercommunity.com/t/direct-message-limits/13472 a UTC day. I'd also make sure that the library you're using isn't displaying you an error that doesn't quite match the raw error message from the API -- it could be that the library is giving you that message on any 403 response from the DM method, when there could be other reasons a 403 is thrown. The issue, which was first reported on Wednesday night, comes a few days after the social network rolled out a new option that lets you send direct messages to anyone, even those not error forbidden twitter following you. This new feature led to speculation that Twitter was blocking links in direct messages to stop spam spread via URLs contained in direct messages, perhaps by hacked accounts. "We're restructuring back-end elements of our direct message system. As a result, users may be unable to send some URLs in direct messages. We apologize for the inconvenience," the note read. However, we wouldn't be surprised if the link-blocking was Twitter's response to a deluge in spam links sent via direct message. Twitter did not respond to our request for comment. I wrote the following short script, basically just to see if I could effectively 'remote control' R by sending direct messages to an account it monitors and then executing whatever code was in the block corresponding to it, along with sending me a response. And it works! Sometimes.
