SQL Server Instance That Will not Start 17 January 2013The SQL Server Instance That Will not StartEveryone's https://www.simple-talk.com/sql/backup-and-recovery/the-sql-server-instance-that-will-not-start/ SQL Server nightmare: The instance will not start. If such a problem http://stackoverflow.com/questions/13628358/cant-access-sql-server-with-my-sa-credential strikes you, keep calm, follow Gail's advice, and you'll soon be back up and running. In the meantime, practice these steps so as to be ready! 140 19 Gail Shaw The SQL Server service won't start… cue ominous music. I cover: Service account password incorrect or account locked or disabled Corrupt sql error log or missing master database files Corrupt or missing model database files Unable to create tempDB Unable to open the error log Before diving into the various possible causes, we'll start with some basic troubleshooting steps that will help identify the cause. (provider: Shared Memory Provider, error: 0 - No process is on the other end of the pipe.) (Microsoft SQL Server, Error: 233) The explanation for that error is: The SQL Server client cannot connect to the server. This error could occur because the server is not configured to accept remote connections. But it is a local database, not a remote. So why is this error happening? sql-server sql-server-2008-r2 sa share|improve this question edited Nov 29 '12 at 15:11 Aaron Bertrand 164k18261319 asked Nov 29 '12 at 14:51 Guilherme Longo 95432355 1 What name are you using to connect to the server? Have you tried forcing tcp/ip using tcp:server name[\instance name]? Have you verified that shared memory and tcp/ip are enabled protocols in SQL Server Configuration Manager? –Aaron Bertrand Nov 29 '12 at 14:53 add a comment| 1 Answer 1 active oldest votes up vote 0 down vote accepted I found the solution. http://serverfault.com/questions/35505/cant-connect-to-sql-server-using-sa-account-what-im-missing I still don´t understand why microsoft says that is a remote connection problem. share|improve this answer answered Nov 29 '12 at 15:02 Guilherme Longo 95432355 1 Microsoft's error message says that it could be a remote connection problem. Note that security / access error messages are deliberately vague - if someone malicious is trying to gain access to your server, how much help do you wan
