any one know where the error log for the server would linux error logs be in what dir? Most logs are in /var/log. Some specific logs might have further subdirectories such as /var/log/httpd. Probably you never started apache and therefore this directory did not get created. Or you have you custom build configuration. Do you have locate installed? Have you run updatedb recently, or have it cronified?
