correctly. Sometimes email servers would refuse to send email if the senders email is not a proper email address. Magento will try to use local SMTP/PHP mail to send the emails out. If you don't have that working on the system/server where your website is on, then you have to discuss this with the system administrators and locate the problem there. It might be that the way emails are structured inside Magento, they get refused by the server and not sent. If all that magento access logs checks out, then you could try going over the error and exception logs ({Magento root}/var/logs/). Look for mail or order related errors or warnings. The logs should give you a clue as to what is going on. Another good log to check is your servers mail log. This will at minimum show you if an email was sent out from the server. Typically this is found at /var/log/maillog but is dependant on your OS and mail software. What can http://www.magecorner.com/debugging-magento-email-issues/ go wrong? When dealing with third party Magento extensions, but also even the core, there might be errors in the PHP-code or unexpected configurations. There are many ways in which a problem can manifest itself: Blank pages Partially loaded pages with an abrupt ending Magento error-screen Blocks not showing up on the page Unexpected behaviour in general Apache logs When you encounter https://www.yireo.com/tutorials/magento/magento-administration/666-analysing-logfiles-with-magento a blank page, chances are that something crashed before Magento even got the chance to deal with it. This means logging is most likely done by Magento, but (if configured correctly) by Apache/PHP. Your Apache server has defined an ErrorLog somewhere on the system-level and this ErrorLog might give interesting clues: Whether Apache logs anything depends on various PHP settings: The PHP-setting log_errors should be enabled, while the PHP-setting error_reporting should allow for the right error-level. The good news is, during the http://www.aschroder.com/2010/04/new-magento-smtp-features-email-logging-and-email-sending-events/ extended train ride I have added some new functionality to my SMTP Pro magento extension - it now optionally logs all emails to a database table and you can view the detail of them from within the Magento admin interface.
